Maybe that was part of the reason for what I was talking about in the spoiler tags up thar. ¬_¬ That would make sense, I suppose.

I've been thinking about picking up the first one or FFVIII, as I've never played through either. And the most recent non-Mario RPG I've played is Tales of Symphonia (GC)...

Get Grandia. It's...really no contest between that and FFVIII.

If you never play FFVIII in your whole life, you will have lead a richer existence.

The same could be said of every Final Fantasy.

The curious thing about Final Fantasy is that everyone's got one that they love, and they hate all the rest, despite the fact that they're all equally as lifeless and absurd.

I still kind of like 7, myself, though I guess I'm probably wrong for it.

Actually, I think they're all mediocre. But at least they're better than Dragon Quest.

Unless they think they're all pretty neat but like one or two in particular.

I don't really hate Final Fantasy, but it would be better if Square wasn't so stubborn with the franchise to cater it to a single demographic(teens to people in the young 20's) that a certain entry was screwed over due to excutive meddling.

This. Not everyone who plays the games is a 12-year old girl who rabidly draws gay porn of men who are women with penises, but that seems to be their main audience as far as Square is concerned.

Aw man, I can't wait to play FFVIII now that I've read about how nostalgic everyone is over it!

I kinda liked VII, but know that it doesn't hold up so well nowadays. I doubt Square Enix will ever actually release that remake...

I liked VIII, but the plot, not exactly high lit as it is, falls apart after the first disk. The junction system was kind of neat, though.

Have you seen what they did with the spinoffs? It wouldn't be worth it.

The game's virutally broken when you make full use of the item-and-magic refinement feature, and taking care not to level up. I never knew how awesome and exploitable it was before watching a speedrun.

8, has without a doubt, the worst plot in the entire Final Fantasy franchise. And I'm including things like "Collect Four Crystals Good luck!" from the first 3 games. There's so much wrong with 8's plot, I could write a tiny essay on everything that makes no sense or is just plain badly written. And the Draw magic system . . . don't even get me started on THAT.

I didn't mean that Grandia II had a particularly terrible sotry, it's just that it's a moot point. The battle system is kickass enough to hook you for the entire game.

And I kinda dug DQVIII, but come on GG!

I quit playing Dragon Quest 8 in anger the very instant it became apparent that they were actually expecting the main character to fall in love with the horse. Before then, it was just OK - nothing I hadn't seen before. Exceptionally fantastic voice acting, though.

That's all it took? Christ man. It's not like she was Rinoa or something.

My only major beef with DQVIII was its surprisingly shitty ultimate villain. The whole game was building up to that?

Yeah, Dhoulmagus was actually a more compelling villain and should have been the final boss. He was like Kefka, if he was less insane and more of an asshole.

Dude, you can quit acting like you don't like horses because we've all seen the contents of your hard drive.

I liked DQVIII, but boy I've never played a game that's made me doze off into sleep so many times while playing it. The music is just... so relaxing and makes me sleeeeepy. But more RPGs need to imitate its world map.

Actually, when I was 6, my aunt's horse ran over my finger and nearly took it off. I've hated horses ever since.

Like the Elder Scrolls games, DQVIII's world map is TOO expansive.

Wow, GG went through and edited out everything criticizing the Dragon Quest series. Real mature.

VIII was my personal favorite out of the entire series, and I quite enjoyed IX, to boot. VII has got to be some of the blandest shit I've ever put up with. What's up with the sudden gaybola outbreak in here?
