Sega's 12-inch pianist.
Sega's 12-inch pianist.
Sega has designed the world's smallest fully-playable grand piano.
Re: Sega's 12-inch pianist.
Some how the point has been lost of having a grand piano the size of a pizza bagle. Why not make the worlds smallest sports utility vehicle.

I'm so cool, I break rules.

Posting XKCD is now bannable on sight.
Re: Sega's 12-inch pianist.
I missed something--what is the relevance of...those four seemingly-innocent capital letters?
Re: Sega's 12-inch pianist.
They're supposed to be unpronounceable (and lowercase). That's all.
Re: Sega's 12-inch pianist.
I would link you to the comic explaining the name, but… :P

Google it. It's very witty and humorous, yet incredibly geeky. The quips you get when you hover over the images only makes it more awesome.
Banning it is stupid, but I've lived with more inane rules before.
As for the piano... why? What did creating this gain Sega, anyway? A mention in the Guiness Book of World Records or something?

I guess this is where Sega allocates their resources to instead of, you know, making good games. :3
Its undeniable ass-kickery slightly makes up for that, though. I want one.

Banning xkcd is funny. Loser.
Re: Sega's 12-inch pianist.
I just spent almost two hours reading comic strips from that site. I feel enlightened and only slightly concerned.
A friend of mine had a miniature violin. She insisted that it played just like a regular-sized one, but I could never tell if she was telling the truth or just pulling my leg, given that she never let anyone near the thing. Until my dog chewed it up. Just like in the movies! That was a rich, full afternoon.
I forgot where I was going with this. That tiny grand piano is kind of neat, though.
Well, not really; I just like to say oxymora.

That and advertising, decent merchandizing, slot machines, and crappy merchandizing that nobody in their right mind will ever want (ie. the Sonic and Tails Valentines Day necklace). Anything but making good games.UCHU wrote:

On a more optimistic note, I just checked out xkcd, loved it, and favorited it. The few strips I read were both smart and sweet. Schweet...
Re: Sega's 12-inch pianist.
Whatever it is exactly they're doing, they're forseeing paying for it to the tune of 235.4 million bucks. Shocking.Wombatwarlord777 wrote:That and advertising, decent merchandizing, slot machines, and crappy merchandizing that nobody in their right mind will ever want (ie. the Sonic and Tails Valentines Day necklace). Re: Sega's 12-inch pianist.
How long has this annual loss thing been going on for SEGA again? A few years? Ever since that merger with Sammy?
Re: Sega's 12-inch pianist.
Maybe (probably) longer, but i'm 90% certain Sega-Sammy Holdings has not once turned a profit.Yami CJMErl wrote:Ever since that merger with Sammy?
Re: Sega's 12-inch pianist.
SEGA had been losing money since the Saturn era. Which actually led to the merger after they went bankrupt after the Dreamcast.Yami CJMErl wrote:How long has this annual loss thing been going on for SEGA again? A few years? Ever since that merger with Sammy?

Re: Sega's 12-inch pianist.
Wow. Awful news, especially those those who are going to lose their jobs.
I can only imagine that this $250,000,000+ loss will adversely affect the quality of SEGA's games, unless they finally decide to buckle down and make quality titles.
EDIT - I'm now almost certain that SEGA doesn't need any goddamn miniature grand pianos, even if they do admittedly look neat.

Or maybe those miniature grand pianos are just the thing that Sega needs to get back on track!
In all seriousness, I wonder if Sega will even survive this economic recession we're going through.
Re: Sega's 12-inch pianist.
Best possible outcome: SEGA-Sammy goes bankrupt, AM2 breaks free taking with it all the rights for their franchises and becomes an independent developer, Artoon claims the rights for Sonic and NiGHTS games, Compile Heart gets back is Puyo Puyo license, the former UGA members at Sonic Team as well as the Skies of Arcadia/Valkyria Chronicles people each make their own independent teams along with the rights for all the games they ever made and TecToy produces the next SEGA console running on Lindbergh technology.

Re: Sega's 12-inch pianist.
Maybe the rights to the Sonic and NiGHTS franchises could go to Prope. They aren't really doing anything else worthwhile anyway (with the possible expection of that new unknown Ringo game). And I imagine Sonic would at least be safe in Naka's hands. He was quite the control freak when it came to the quality of the Genesis titles, from what I've read.
Re: Sega's 12-inch pianist.
The question is if he'd want to. There's always a chance that it was Sega's influence that drove him away from the series, but it would appear that he's running from what his brainchild has grown into. Also, has Prope unveiled anything that doesn't sport a flagrant lack of quality control? I'd be hard pressed to say he hasn't lost that touch.
Re: Sega's 12-inch pianist.
Yuji Naka has proven multiple times that he's sick of Sonic and that even if he wasn't, he wouldn't know what to do with the series. I see no point in letting him make any other Sonic games; he wouldn't bother getting any others of the old crew either because they were apparently all worthless and he did everything important and for example Oshima or Yasuhara don't deserve any credit.
Seriously, give Sonic to Artoon and let Oshima get his child back on track.
