Re: Sonic and the Quest for Phallic Compensation
More than anything, I'm shocked they kept this under wraps so long after the leakfest that was Unleashed. Hell, haven't we found out about the last four or five titles from someone noticing a copyright on the logo & title?
And I can't figure out for the life of me why you all bitch about the lame story ideas before there's an inkling of gameplay. They're utterly incapable of doing a story well, their investment in 4Kids should be proof positive of their contentment with awful cutscenes.

Truth. I may be more apt to call it fair, but it had too many great moments that have yet to be recaptured, so I don't feel good about writing it off as substandard, even if I thought it so at the time, having just come off SA1.MiraiTails wrote: I suppose, if 3D Sonic games had a better track record, one would be less inclined to describe SA2 as good.

Re: Sonic and the Quest for Phallic Compensation
The only good thing about this is that I usually like medieval settings. Not sure if in a Sonic game though, aside from Kingdom Valley.
Ah well, at least I'll have the US version of the PSP Yggdra Union and well as the upcoming Knights in the Nightmare to play some actually GOOD games featuring knights!
(If you haven't noticed by now, yes, I'm a sucker for Sting's Dept. Heaven series. I've got every console incarnation of Riviera, its two soundtrack releases and YUGBA and its soundtrack thus far. Along with a few Riviera guides and artbooks.)

Zeta basically called, and I like how the press announcement basically avoids talking about how the game is supposed to play.
Re: Sonic and the Quest for Phallic Compensation
Yeah, I either wanted Sonic in King Arthur's Court or Sonic and the Wizard of Oz. : ) I'm pretty happy with this turn of events.
Re: Sonic and the Quest for Phallic Compensation
Well, it says that the nunchuck is involed this time and in Sega of Europe's blurb there will be swordplay action.Rob-Bert wrote:Zeta basically called, and I like how the press announcement basically avoids talking about how the game is supposed to play.
Sonic returns to the Wii™ on a wild ride through a storybook world of Arthurian legend in his brand new adventure, Sonic and the Black Knight™. Re: Sonic and the Quest for Phallic Compensation
This whole thing sucks and I hate you all.
Re: Sonic and the Quest for Phallic Compensation
I imagine the swordplay will just be a replacement for the "Heart on Fire" techniques from Secret Rings and will just require you to waggle to activate them.
Re: Sonic and the Quest for Phallic Compensation
Why does Sonic needs a sword again?
I originally thought it was just for promotional purposes. :/

Re: Sonic and the Quest for Phallic Compensation
Yeah, it must be a stellar occasion to watch the million pieces the series' credibility was already in be finally smashed into nothing.Zeta wrote:Yeah, I either wanted Sonic in King Arthur's Court or Sonic and the Wizard of Oz. : ) I'm pretty happy with this turn of events.
Re: Sonic and the Quest for Phallic Compensation
I'M HOPING THIS ENTIRE GAME IS IN FIRST-PERSON TO BRING SONIC BACK TO HIS ROOTS.
Re: Sonic and the Quest for Phallic Compensation
This first game had Sonic with a magic ring that gives him heartburn, and this game has him wielding the Excalibur. If they made it Sonic and the Wizard of Oz, then at least he'd get to wear the Silver Shoes.
Re: Sonic and the Quest for Phallic Compensation
Because swords are cool. Hence why the main character of basically every JRPG ever made gets to wield one even though I'd much rather play as a mage/wizard/spellcaster and just fuck weapons altogether and instead just nuke the enemies with powerful spells. >:(Ngangbius wrote:Why does Sonic needs a sword again?

Oh, like it's worse than Shadow or WereSonic.Yeah, it must be a stellar occasion to watch the million pieces the series' credibility was already in be finally smashed into nothing.
Re: Sonic and the Quest for Phallic Compensation
The concept of Sonic sword fighting is just as stupid since for 17 years his whole body is a sharp weapon.
The main characters in Suikoden 1, 2, and 5 didn't wield a sword, and neither Mario did in his RPGs. Hell, Sonic doesn't appear too either in his own damn role-playing game.P.P.A. wrote:Because swords are cool. Now that I think about, this might an attempt to cash in on the Zelda franchise's success.
I sure do hope that they incorporate complex dungeons with mind-bending puzzles.

Re: Sonic and the Quest for Phallic Compensation
Simply because the Wii Remote Control can be waved about like a sword, and with rumours of the next Zelda game playing up the sword-fighting they probably want to jump on that band-wagon. The boat stuff in Sonic Rush Adventure seemed like blatant copy-catting of Phantom Hourglass, though I thought they integrated that feature quite well and at least the entire game wasn't built around it.Ngangbius wrote:Why does Sonic needs a sword again?
Re: Sonic and the Quest for Phallic Compensation
This is the post where I say you're all overreacting and this game isn't necessarily bad, or even stupid in its premise.
...I got nothing.

Re: Sonic and the Quest for Phallic Compensation
Details from Nintendo Power. It's ambiguous to if it's on rails this time; "Sonic is controlled with the Control Stick". Knuckles and Shadow are also playable.
That's what they all say.the team behind Sonic and the Black Knight is keenly aware of the franchise’s past missteps, and their enthusiasm for doing right by the series is infections
Re: Sonic and the Quest for Phallic Compensation
So why not use franchises that features actual sword-wielding characters from their company like Wonderboy or the hero from the Oasis games to test this new gimmick?Crazy Penguin wrote:Simply because the Wii Remote Control can be waved about like a sword, and with rumours of the next Zelda game playing up the sword-fighting they probably want to jump on that band-wagon.

Oh that's just swell.-”his sword, a talking blade named Calibur, serves as a mentor”
But hey, Jun Senoue is composing! Maybe the music will drown it out.

Can't really say I'm suprised that Shadow will be playable. Wasn't he able to use swords in Shadow the Hedgehog?K2J wrote:Knuckles and Shadow are also playable.
