I've almost always had a toilet right next to my shower. There have been times where I've been away from toilets and never even considered peeing in the shower.

At first I too thought that it was a test of mind over body, but after a few years of fighting (and utterly failing) I started to realize that the mental aspects were at least as powerful if not more. I was trying to stop physically masturbating, but I hadn't committed myself to stop mentally masturbating. Sexual fantasies (the real heart of the sin) always found a way to get my body involved, no matter how I tried to separate my thoughts and actions. This may not apply to everyone, but I think for most people you can't stop the one unless you stop the other. If you think that's humanly impossible, I'm inclined to agree. I had made some...not really progress, but difference, by policing my mind, but ultimately I couldn't do it under my own power (praised be Jesus).

For the record, I've been free for 13 months. Prior to that my average was 2 or 3 days, despite my nonstop efforts.

Far too many people are ashamed of their sexuality -- I don't mean gay/straight, I mean the fact that they have sexuality -- because of crap puritanical beliefs that we still haven't managed to shake off and probably never will, and it bothers me. It's the foundation of sexism, homophobia, and a lot of other underlying garbage I don't feel like getting into. And yeah, I should respect other people's choices even if I don't agree with them, but I don't exactly come to this forum to be a nice person.

I honestly agree with Frieza here; the mental addiction to sex is what controls the physical addiction. Thus, it requires a morality change - a superego overriding an id - to cease it. Now, not to say sex is bad, but just that it has been abused to loss of intimacy. My most undesirable sexual fantasies aren't the random sporatic animalistic mind-porn. They are when I long for another person's intimacy, partially by way of physical connection. These are the ones that I must shut my mind out of, because they evelop me much more than an image does, and change my view of the person. Porn feeds the physical hunger, wheras true intimacy feeds the spiritual hunger.

But, of course, we are all different. Maybe you don't view it that way. Maybe sex is just the physical, not the spiritual, for you. Heck, you may even have such a great control over the mental concept of sex (from God or otherwise) that you can go 13 months without masturbating. In fact, Paul himself viewed his asexuality (lack of want of marriage, which was by its very nature equivalent to sex in his Jewish-born theology) as a gift from God. Again, sex isn't bad, but it can hinder a person if they have another calling. Christians (in my view) are not called to be ashamed of sex, but rather embrace it as a crowning, tangible way of expressing connection to another.
