To be fair, I'm not complaining about the game in and of itself--having a sequel to such a cult hit is, in my book, very much a "good thing"--but the fact that it's coming out on everything that I DON'T have.

But, you're the boss, so... *slaps a piece of duct tape to own mouth*

What's really awesome about this thread is that I'm not the only person excited about this announcement. :D It's good to know other people care. Maybe this one will do better than the last. :)

The first one could've made more money to begin with (and maybe been less glitch ridden) if Ubi hadn't inconsiderately chucked it in with the rest of the oversaturated 2003 holiday rush soup. Now, if they don't make this mistake again, then sales of number 2 should, give or take, show us how number 1 would've done with the right timing. Right?

I think so! The first game also had pretty anemic marketing in North America. (Ubisoft put most of their marketing muscle behind the Splinter Cell and Prince of Persia games that launched around the same time.)

It sold pretty decently in Europe though, apparently.

Despite loving the first BG&E, I find myself rather unexcited for this. I don't really understand why, but I could have been jaded by that Nights sequel.

Or I could be lacking confidence in Ancel due to Peter Jackson's King Kong: The Official Game of the Movie. Peter Jackson apparently specifically asked Ancel to make that train wreck because he was a fan of BG&E.

I think the reason I'm excited for a sequel like this is because the first game was a great, but flawed game. When a sequel is announced for a great but flawed game like BG&E, it gives the developer a chance to improve what was wrong with the first one. I suppose flawed might be the wrong word, so I suppose a better term for it is that there's definite room for improvement, because it feels like so much more can be done to enrich the game experience.

Lordy lordy lordy, just when I feel some sense of respect for Ubisoft, Yves Guillemot throws one below the belt:
“We saw with Beyond Good & Evil that so many customers were extremely happy with the game,” said Guillemot. “We had a different audience at that time. We had more core gamers than casual gamers than we have today.

"We think the game was probably a little too difficult for the general gamers at that time. We’re going to make it more accessible and make sure that it’s really done for the new generation that’s come into videogames.”
What.

Say what.

Wasn't the original one easy enough as it was?

Perhaps it's a face-saving way of saying it won't have game-breaking glitches in it?

For some reason, BG&E was difficult for my younger sister. I wanted to hit my head on a wall every time she didn't do something that should've been obvious. She doesn't even seem to be able to keep up with simple boss patterns until she dies from one twenty times. But then again she did that to like almost every game I made her play ever.

Why can't I edit my post? I was going to put things in like

"Okay, after you shoot down the monster that has Pey'j captive, you STOP SHOOTING HIM WHEN HE COMES DOWN AND HIT HIM WITH YOUR STAFF, NOT CONTINUE SHOOTING HIM" or "Godammit, Olga says 'Take this' whenever she throws a frickin' grenade, why do you keep getting hit by it?" and I'm pretty sure she lost at least 100 lives when she fought the Biolizard a long time ago. But then I guess the Biolizard was pretty difficult.

I put a 5 minute cap on post editing because people kept editing their shit and it made the stuff after it confusing. If you have a new thought to add, just post another message. There's no need to disrupt space-time.

I'm pretty sure I lost a hundred lives fighting that fucking thing.

Do you think maybe your sister's problem is that you're trying to play the game while the controller is in her hands? Seriously, just let her figure it out on her own. Could be she doesn't like the same type of game as you. Could be she doesn't like games as much as you, period. If you two are anything like me and my sister... let's just say I take a small amount in pride in being able to say that I've played a fair number of games, where she takes a small amount of pride in being able to say she's played through Kingdom Hearts and it's sequel eighty thousand goddamn times.

When we were growing up, my brothers and I used to play pretty much the same games, but these days they both only play shit I don't care about like Warcraft and Street Blood Fucker and other heinous crimes against the medium. They sometimes pick up more relevant things like Okami or Colossus, but invariably lose interest after the first two sittings. Damned if they haven't been playing Warcraft every blessed moment of every blessed day for the past three years at least, though.

I should point out, however, that I do not respect their opinions. They are just idiots. I support Cuckoo's regime, futile though it may be.

Don't worry, my younger sister's never played Kingdom Hearts and the only things I recommend to her are the games that I feel are games worth experiencing. She's also, like Delph said, just not as much a gamer as me so it's not like she ever buys any games so the only games she ever played are the ones I own.

Generally, I do try to let them figure things out on their own when it's not something obvious, like in Colossus or Phoenix Wright, and I may drop a helpful hint every now and then, but I probably go into "play the game while the controller is in her hands" mode when she misses something obvious like that C4 that's in the middle of an open floor and sticks out like a sore thumb because its green light is beeping so how the hell did you not see that after it being on the screen for like 10 seconds or that one time when she fought Zant (the boss fight where he has multiple forms) and she kept dying for an hour 'cuz she kept trying to shoot him and I was all like "Hey, remember this place? Doesn't the background look kind of, I don't know, familiar?" until 15 minutes later I finally relented and said use the boomerang and after getting stuck in his next form I was all like be aware all the weapons Zant are weak against are the ones the boss of the background you're in now were weak against, or that one time when... actually, I can't think of any moments where my older sister missed something obvious. I guess it's mostly my younger sister who doesn't pay attention to her surroundings and doesn't catch on things like boss patterns.

I played Mario Galaxy with my younger sister (I made her get most of the stars as Luigi, I know I'm such a cheat) and that 2p assist thing let me help in more subtle ways like keeping my mouth shut more often since I could point to certain things when I think she needs a hint. But then there was that one time when she was fighting Dino Piranha and she actually hurt him once by spinning to its tail, but she didn't do it again for like another 15 minutes and she wandered around the planet running for dear life and then I was like, "Do... do you remember how you hurt him the first time? Why don't you try that again?" And then 5 minutes later she figured it out and I think I kept silent for the remainder of that boss fight. My older sister played Resident Evil 4 quite well and a lot of other games quite well. My only complaint with her is that she's almost always reluctant to play any game that doesn't have potential boysex pairings in it.

Also, I just did a search on Street Blood Fucker because I was curious and Google tells me it doesn't exist.

I've got a great game your sisters can play. It's really long and hard and has endless replay value.

It might have replay value but I heard the experience itself is too short to warrant a purchase.
