a very huge part of SEGA’s developer teams including those from Japan, the US and, apparently for the first time, even Europe.
No wonder.

I think I can forgive were-sonic as long as they keep shadow out of the game. Maybe...

I remember how excited I was about Sonic 360 until Shadow and Silver turned up and that set off so many redlights it was like the fires of hellish crap being given off from the game.

Until I see weresonic with some terrible gameplay mechanic, that you're forced to play through on multiple occasions even if you don't want to, I think as a character it's a fairly good compromise within the fanbase. There are many fans who, for whatever reason despise the character of Shadow, and yet there are also fans who like the "edge" he brings to the series (laughs); and so to leave him out and give Sonic an edgier form isn't a bad middle ground really, especially in light of Sonic's zany DBZ-inspired transformations which are all second nature to us now anyway. To be honest in many ways, this transformation requires a much smaller stretch of the imagination than some of his others (not that most of us are pining for realism in this franchise I know).

UPDATE:First, we apologize for our fault to post those fake news about the Sonic plot and the confirmation that it would be 2D, gameplay-wise.
Doesn't it seem like they probably just overstepped what they were permitted to release and SEGA made them retract it to preserve "exclusives"? I mean, that plot had a fair amount of detail about names and such, it seemed entirely plausible and consistent with the screens, and it'd be somewhat odd for it to be just made up. Plus the 2D gameplay is pretty much obvious from the video. The situation's a bit fuzzy, but I don't think it's a huge leap of faith to connect the dots.

It bloody happened again. I go away for a couple of days and the fabric of the space-time continuum unravels. Maybe if I posted more then Sonic Team would make quality titles. Maybe, by some cosmic significance, I'm --gasp-- the key to Sonic's survival as a marketable franchise!

Now there's an idea for a game. A fanfic, at the very least.

Hedgehog. Because you can never have too many hedgehogs.

This much is most assuredly final. Instead, let's start wagering guesses as to the new character's name. We've already got a Blaze and a Shade, two Sonic fandom staples- my money's on Sparks next. It might even be Light!

Everything is better with penguins or monkeys, so realistically probably one of them.

On the other hand, the new characters could be human/humanoid ala Secret Rings. Oh I hope hope hope.

I really want to be excited about this game and if there’d been no mention of this Were-Sonic I probably would be. It looks fantastic, the 2.5D sections look great and have elements from Sonic Rush in them, the 3D bits are in corridors so you can’t fall off the track into oblivion and Sonic is looking better than ever. Hell, even Eggman is back in his cartoon form.

Personally though I’d rather have some Shadow sections than a Were-Sonic.

Actually, I wouldn't mind Shadow if he tragically died in every game, it'd make for a funny gag.

As long as this game doesn't prove itself to be more than a blend of three or four other previous games plus a totally fruity dark-self gimmick, I'll just pass it by.

Shadow could actually be pretty cool if he wasn't a playable emo version of Sonic. I think he would be awesome as a boss in the game. Like if had pretty much all the same moves as sonic but was stronger and had his chaos control moves, he could be like Sparkster's rival from Rocket Knight Adventures.

or they could just use Metal Sonic which would be even cooler.

Ahem, they mostly fixed the emo problem in StH 06, and made Shadow rather unique game-play wise. Heck, the G.U.N. agent thing was kinda neat; though I hold by my earlier statement that they should have him go back in time and avert Maria's death, therefore he doesn't show up in the later games and he goes out with honor(like he tried to do in SA2).

Though the tragically dieing gag would be quite funny. Each time he almost dies he would see Maria and be almost in heaven when some thing would "save" him, most likely it would be that bastard Iizuka.

Shadow should be stronger than Sonic but unable to turn into Super Shadow. He could have cool moves like those old power ups in Genesis games (Fire shield, anyone?) And the player who wants to play as him would be forced to end the game with Sonic first. It would be freaking funny if he turned into a pacifist and in every cut scene he is he tries to convince the “Bosses” to not fight. He would also try to talk some sense into Eggman about how futile his world domination plans are.

That's what I'm going with until we're told otherwise.

I couldn't care less about WereSonic if 2.5D and ST or K playable turns out to be true.

"Or" is the key word there. As in "if you want to, but you can get the full ending with any character." It worked for S3&K. What's so hard about doing it that way again?

Well Eggman has been in his cartoon form for a few games since Sonic Next. I was worried for a future 360 / PS3 game he might have kept his human look but thankfully that’s not the case.

Regarding the characters, I have to admit that it does seem a little suspicious to not have Shadow. He's so popular with the kids, after all. Didn't the Sumo Digital guy basically say that they put him in Superstars Tennis because the focus groups wanted him?
