A Sonic RPG from Bioware---wait...WHAT!?!
You know it's not going to expand upon Sonic X.
I've never really played any of Bioware's games, but assuming they're like other Western RPGs it can't be too bad, it's really just how they're going to fit Sonic gameplay into it. I'd really hate this to be Japanese styled with attacking by selecting things from a menu and then only focusing on emo characters like Shadow and Blaze. The cool thing about western RPGs is you actually, you know, play them instead of watching it play itself. And the characters not reading an entire novel to you about some half-assed story you don't care about is always a plus. Really I just see this as being similar to Sonic Battle or maybe something like the Wonder Boy RPGs. Any forms of "towns" will likely just have the generic humans we've always got that you can basically ignore anyway.

I think there should be more furries in the vein of Ricky, Rocky, Flicky, etc. as townspeople. They look generic enough without looking like they can upstage Sonic. Actually, I wanted furries like that in Sonic Adventure rather than the humans walking around; generic enough to not upstage the Hedgehog in terms of design.
What really makes me wonder is how they're going to compromise Sonic's speed for the usual slower pace of an RPG.

This was so hard to read.Kogen wrote:You know it's not going to expand upon Sonic X.

Western RPGs lack charcter or soul or any sign of inspiration. Bioware is a company that works mostly around other franchises. Granted they have a good reputation, but I much rather perfer any Japanese RPG over sitting through KOTOR for an other hour. It's slow pace, its dull graphics, the over done Star Wars theme, the flat, boring characters. Ugh. And the "roll the 100-sided die to see if the attack hits or misses" way of going at stats. But people praise it because of its non-turn based battle. Yeah, I'd love to vaguely direct my charcters in the direction of an enemy, occationally using the force/casting magic, like some kind of third person RTS/every MMO out there.
I'll take pretty emo boys and "watching the game play itself" over that other stuff any day.

Yeah, because seeing bishounen after bishounen relive their oh-so tragic pasts and getting the cute white magic girl in a world with magical technology game after game is a sign of inspiration and originality and soul.Western RPGs lack charcter or soul or any sign of inspiration.

Seconded.You're dumb.
Yeah, gimmie some of that Final Fantasy XII, featuring generic characters who are supernaturally pretty going on adventures for vaugely defined reasons while being led by rejects from a gay bar. Also from art direction to stories to characters, western rpgs suck balls.

Not cliché, and actually frigging fun.Esrever wrote:All RPGs suck!
There! Is everyone feeling sufficiently alienated now?
But yeah, after a couple titles you finally get bored of these, wherever they come from.
Also, we're talking DS here; I'd prefer turn based functional battle over badly-controlled free action, but that's just me. Unless you just level up by playing platforming stages and getting A ranks and blah blah, SotR style.
Er, yeah, he was being facetious. Probably.Isuka wrote:Not cliché, and actually frigging fun.

I like KOTOR's, but, I'm a Star Wars fan (I liked it's game stile too). I didn't like Jade Empire, neither story/design or game stile. And the only reason I will play Mass Effect is because it looks superb (I actually have no idea about it's game stile)gr4yJ4Y wrote: I didn't like KOTOR very much. Did anyone else here actually play it or any of Bioware's other RPG's?
I have been thinking today (...) and the only sonic RPG my mind can make an image is an strategic RPG... yes.. Shining Force a la Sonic, with a huge army of sonic characters...... -.-
I wasn't really being facetious. I hate turn-based RPGs. I think that's my issue more than the genre's, though!
That said... my understanding is that Bioware has a pretty good track record. I don't really fear for the quality of this game. (Even though I doubt I'll play it.) I just think it's a strange thing to make in the first place!
It's kind of like if Valve announced they were going to make a Sonic FPS. On the one hand, Valve makes amazing FPS games. But on the other hand... why would anyone WANT a Sonic FPS?

Especially considering Iizuka has a boner for Sonic RPGs. He's probably over at Bioware right now, face pressed up against the glass.Frieza2000 wrote:Don't worry. I'm sure they'll get plenty of coaching from Iizuka, as the Sonic Rivals team did.
"Hey guys I hear you're making a Sonic RPG I like Sonic RPGs I mean Sonic Adventure was supposed to be a Sonic RPG so can I help please I'll give you lots of cool tips about how we can use Shadow the Hedgehog and Silver in some sort of cool sequence where the world ends due to a threatening force from space oh please let me in I've got Jun Senoue with me, he can totally shred on his guitar for you"
On one hand, Iizuka was involved with the brilliant PS4 as I think he was one of the main writer. On the other hand, he arguably fallen into crazy-ville the past several years concerning game storylines.
Funny thing is FFXII was inspired by western RPGs.Zeta wrote:Yeah, gimmie some of that Final Fantasy XII, featuring generic characters who are supernaturally pretty going on adventures for vaugely defined reasons while being led by rejects from a gay bar. Also from art direction to stories to characters, western rpgs suck balls.
