On the subject of the Miscellanea section:
When Iizuka and the other artists presented the idea for Chao along with concept sketches, producer Yuji Naka was so impressed that he approved the idea on the spot.
It was Chaos (and not the Chao) that received immediate approval from Yuji Naka.

I always did think it was out of Naka's character to approve something like the Chao so quickly...

However, despite the skepticism, studies commenced, and the top-secret research was dubbed "Project Shadow", named for the irony involved in trying to create being which does not exist naturally - a "shadow", so to speak.
Should be ..."trying to create a being which does not exist naturally"...

(Note that you can now board the fallen Egg Carrier. Play the Hedgehog Hammer game again and top 5,000 points to win the optional Long Hammer, which extends the length of Amy's basic attack.)
It's 3000 points in the international version.
Additionally, Sonic can access Tails' Sand Hill minigame via Trial mode, though it isn't playable during his normal quest.
If you spin-dash up the incline and jump at the right moment, you can reach the ledge and press the switch and drain the sand. Although you won't be able to enter Sand Hill through that entrance until you get through Sonic's adventure and beat Sand Hill as Tails during his adventure.

Archie also planned to have issues 33 and 34 of the Knuckles comic tie into their SA1 arc, and that plan fell through with the book when it was canned.

Concerning the comic adaptation, issues 79-81 involved a crappy prologue illustrating how Sonic, Tails, Amy, and the freedom fighters (who never should have came along to begin with) get to Station Square. Issue 82 covers Sonic's fight with Chaos 0. These first four issues contain side-stories showing their warped interpretation of some scenes from Knuckles', Amy's, Big's and E-102's adventures. Sonic Super Special 13 was the official U.S. adaptation and is loosely based on Sonic's adventure. Issues 83-84 drew their story from Super Sonic's adventure. Hopefully that clears up all the BS surrounding the Archie Comic tie-in.

Small animals too. That was annoying.
Cuckooguy wrote:Edit 2: I was reading your Nights pinball description and I was wondering if it should be notable that you can fly through those orange loop de loops around the Twin Seeds tower by accurately catapulting Sonic somewhere in the upper left corner of the second board of the Nights table.
Actually, I think that's a requirement for getting each ideya. First you collect a certain number of blue chip cards, then a transparent silver ideya appears beneath the ideya capture on the upper table. Then you go through the orange rings to deposit your blue chips in the ideya capture (the only hint that you've accomplished anything is that the transparent ideya is gone), then when you drop and pass the ideya palace you'll deposit it. The dome of the ideya capture changes colors for each one.

Knowing nothing about NiGHTS when I first played, I spent quite a while trying to figure out how I got those dragonball-like baubles to appear and wondering what would happen if I got them all. I thought it involved pressing the camera buttons to navigate Sonic into the palace as he flew by. The farthest I could get was 2 ideyas until I finally looked it up.

Speaking of the Finalhazard, wasn't the whole boss fight technically taking place under a five minute time-limit? I mean, the usual timer for timed levels (such as Green Forest or any of the timed missions) wasn't in the corner, but IIRC, if you wasted enough time over the five minutes, you lost automatically (although the animation was the same as the "you lost all your rings n00b" one)...

Then again, I could be completely wrong about this. I just don't think I am.

You're not, five minutes is what you've got to deal with the Finalhazard. And for that matter, here's some uncommon knowledge: the Sonic vs. Shadow fight at the end of both stories has a 10 minute time limit. Once the clock ticks past that, the path starts falling apart in front of you too.

When I find the time to, i'll continue ripping on the rest of the SA1 page. BTW, I see the new Shuffle page doesn't have any notice about pending screenshots, and has about as many errors as the old one, maybe more. Granted, that's not the easiest game to research, but...

It's no wonder, as the more you play Sonic Shuffle the less you know. You unlearn things not only about the game but about daily life.

I did try to minimize the time I spent with Sonic Shuffle, plus I did it right after the SA pages so I was kind of burnt out, but I really wanted to get it out of the way.

By all means, fire away.

If the blast from a Kiki's bomb manages to nail you, it'll take a few seconds to laugh hysterically at your pitful-ass reflexes.

Chaos 2 has another trick he may use when his health is in the red: he'll move to the center, ball up, and burst into a shower of damaging little blobs that splash down all over the place, before then reforming.

You should make note that the entrance to Knuckles' Sky Deck is through a doorway at the bottom of the pool that opens only for him.
Use the lever on the deck to control the tilt of the entire arena: when uphill, locked doors will open, potentially revealing Emerald shards.
...and causes endless streams of debris to come spilling out. And one other neat detail: you know the Rosie-ish cleaning droids that roam in the Carrier's inside? They're in Sky Deck too; look into some of the windows in the cargo area. Better yet, tilt the ship just right and you can watch them roll and flail around.

You left out two bits about ZERO in Amy's intro: his charred, smoking invincibility after you beat him around enough, and his lame lock-on punch. Also, make note that he can smash straight through certain scenery (the glass water containiners in Hot Shelter, for one), which is how he makes his entrance most of the time.

Sonic encounters the bomb barrels in his Twinkle Park too.

Gamma's utter fear of water makes him an awful Chao parent, should one of them get into the water and not know how to swim...

You can shoot Beta's homing missiles, as well as the ones all his younger brothers (and his new incarnation at the end) fire off.
Land another hit and the enraged Beta will begin sweeping the entire surface with laser fire.
Shouldn't that be, "sweeping the arena with a steady stream of charged blasts"?

Why is there this huge gap between the start of Big's entry and the cell for the opening?

The Kikis in Big's Twinkle Park ignore him completely, but by the time you get to Emerald Coast, Eggman will have told them to drop the mellow attitude toward fat cats.

Once you flood Froggy's chamber in Hot Shelter (by yanking the drain plug), the water rises so fricking high it's nigh impossible to fish him up, unless i've been doing it wrong all these years...

Perfect Chaos' other attack you missed: when you're at a distance, he shoots off a spread of lightning bolt-ish projectiles at your last location. He tries the breath blast and the waterspouts only when you move in close enough. Boy, you got a problem remembering this guy's attacks, don't ya?

I'm gonna mostly stay clear of the Chao side of things and let someone a hell of a lot more experienced (and interested) proofread you on that one, but a couple things: if you keep giving a Chao animals of one particular type after it matures, you can gradually get it to look even snazzier. Ex.: a speed Chao that keeps getting more and more speed animals eventually becomes a full-fledged Sonic Chao; a flight Chao that starts getting steady amounts of power animals looks something like both NiGHTS and a ram, ect. This carries over to Adventure 2 too.

Getting a Chaos Chao, by the way, involves rebirthing one Chao three times, not giving it any animals until after (I think) the second time, where you're supposed to give it one of every animal and no more. Rebirth it again and it's a Chaos Chao. Also, they're immortal.

Finally, I think the opponents in the Beginner Chao Races depend entirely on the stats of the Chao you're entering. I have no idea when Chakuron starts showing up.

You used to mention that the download files are just keys to unlock them in the game; was that proven false or did you forget it?

In DX, Metal Sonic can't play the Sky Chase sub-games.

And lastly, just nitpicking, but I thought those alt tags that used to go with the photos from Sonic Team's trip were a hoot.

Fixed?

I don't think we need a detailed explanation of chao raising on the game pages. Maybe in the encyclopedia. In any case, anything you could ever want to know about them, including screenshots of every possible evolution, can be found on the hundreds of other sites devoted to them. Chao Island and Chao World look like good ones.

I'm sure the A button on your pad isn't.

How do you pull it off, anyhow? Straightforward button hammering or is there some obscure trick to it?

You have to mash the button at lightspeed during the first few seconds before human limitations kick in and your wrist starts to ache. Doing it at an average human rate just makes you lose and feel tired throughout the remainder of the game.

Hammering, kinda. It's hard to explain, but I sort of know how to make my hand vibrate. It's a gift, really. I can't pull it off through any means other than vibration.
