This might be the first time Smash Bros. is doing a fly-by of a stage I actually RECOGNIZE... The only other such level would've been the F-Zero ones, such as Mute City, which I soundly don't, having not played much of that series.

But Christ, it's exactly like I remembered it (barring the platforms by the giant Shine Sprite)... that's going to be a fun stage, methinks.

For some reason this has me really excited. I think it actually looks a lot nicer than in the original game. Hopefully they have more fly by levels like this and some interactivity in the level itself - like the cars in Mute City from Melee.

Why DOES this game look so good? It's certainly miles ahead of everything else that's come out for the console so far. (Which have generally looked like ass.) Have developers just not been trying very hard, or what?

Yeah, that seems to be the explanation. They took Nintendo's "Graphics do not make a game" as "Games don't need good graphics at all!"

I think they could've safely added a little bit of texture to Pikachu, myself.

Wouldn't it be neat if that stage had the gunk everywhere and everyone had FLUDD's to clean it up?

The gunk would be neat. Mandatory FLUDDs would not.

Besides, it's been done in Warioware. Not to mention Super Mario Sunshine.

Older shots like this one are bigger, and they look nearly as good. (Just as good in comparison to other Wii titles, I mean.)

"Bigger" sure is a relative measurement! Those screenshots are only 640x480, which I guess means that's the exact resolution the game will actually be running in. Hardly impressive.

Isn't that the highest resolution that a standard-definition TV can display? Even a screenshot running in 480p will only be 480 pixels tall.

Or are you just pretending to be surprised that Wii games aren't in HD?

I am marveling anew at how small 640x480 really is.

Segaholic, were you by any chance molested by a Nintendo employee as a child?

I was actually talking about the new Delfino Island level. In Sunshine it didn't look nearly as good. I think Brawl as a whole looks about what I'd expect it to. It doesn't look like it's going to blow my mind as far as what the Wii can do.

It was me. I was wearing a Hiroshi Yamauchi mask to conceal my identity.

And that was what 'holic said back then, too, right GG?

640x480 is pretty small! But then, I don't even have an HDTV, so it doesn't make much difference to me. If I was playing it on my computer though, it'd drive me crazy.

I have a feeling the whole battle takes place on the two platforms on the tower in the center of the level.

Edit:

New update: a do-over of the Yoshi's Story ending song. It sounds like two semi-muted lizards being thrown on drums.

(Why not the Yoshi's Island theme/ending song?)

I hate how Yoshi's Story ranks higher than Yoshi's Island in Nintendo's eyes. I've always hated the squeaky Yoshi voice. They need to go back to that weird sound they used back in Super Mario World. Hell, it was still around for Mario Kart 64.

Hell yes! What really puzzles me is that, well, nobody liked Yoshi's Story, and yet they still continue to put it first.
