Link at Sonic CulT cracked/decompiled the LUA programming in Sonic Next a while back. You can catch up on all of his tinkering from the start here, but the latest hoop he's made the game jump through is extra special: he got Sonic's Rainbow Gem to work. Well, "work" so far as getting it to do the animation it's set to play.

One guess what this gem was for before you click here. The moment of truth is 20 seconds in.

When was the last time you could play Super in-game? S3&K?

If this game hadn't been so rushed, and SEGA actually tested it for bugs, I think it could've been a great game.
Stuff like Super Sonic in-game suggests Sonic Team wanted this to be good..

ever since the E3 trailer I knew they had this in mind....But someone in Sonic team always damages a game when it almost finished.

Never knew it was programmed in LUA. That stuff was developed by a university here in Rio, which is pretty cool. Or pretty lame, considering they used it to make Sonic 360...

A program's only as lame as the stuff that's made with it.

In other words, VERY lame. *SHOT*

Does Sonic do that pose in-game when he transforms for the final battle?

I don't think so, but I DO recall him using something akin to that back in the old original Beta trailer (the one with the tossable Ring Boxes)...

Right at the start of the Solaris fight, yeah. In fact, none of the super forms have models of their own. They just dressed up the regular ones with some SFX trick to make them look different.

So it's not even hypothetically cool. Welp.

Has there been any word on future downloads, or are they going to cut their losses and leave the game for dead?

The latter.

Though, this game has been such a perfect storm thus far, I won't be too suprised if anything more sickening comes up to add to its' legacy.
