This was linked on NeoGaf.

Assuming that this isn't a hoax this is what we would have gotten post spinball. The gameplay looks kinda shit for Sonic, but if this is true, "Whoa..."

EDIT: Yuji Naka kinda seems like a douche. Then again - thats something I've heard before....many times

That's like, slower than Sonic Labyrinth.

Its very slow. I can't help but think of Spinball. Somewhat nice looking animation but slow as shit with clunky, asinine, and amatuerish controls

Looks like they managed to completely remove every element that defined the original Sonic games and instead create Generiplatformer 6.

... And that SatAM game doesn't look very good either! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha 8----------------------)

The only good thing about it is that it has nice animation. Other than that, it looks anti-Sonic and generally awful.

The first thing I thought was that it looked like a hack of Comix Zone. And I was right; the interview says it was made by the guy who programmed Comix Zone.

Not bad to look at but as already stated, really really slow.

It's about as 'Sonic' as the SatAM cartoon was though, in that it's more or less something nearly completely different that happens to have some characters in common with the games. So I suppose this means it hit it's mark.

Sonic's speed was at least incorporated into the show. He might as well be Bubsy in that demo.

Hey man, don't be dissing on the Bubsy. He's got more attitude than Sonic. Just look at the exclaimation point on his shirt. It just screams rebellion and disrespect for authority.

He also spouted off catchphrases every single minute. Kids love the hip lingo!

It looks like a CD-i game.

Seriously, I'm almost tempted to say I wouldn't be surprised to start such a game up and see Sonic stretching and rambling "GEE, IT SURE IS BORING AROUND HERE!"

Seeing Sally respond with "MAH BOI, THIS PEACE IS WHAT ALL TRUE FREEDOM FIGHTERS STRIVE FOR" would be a little... hard to conceive, actually.

"It is written, only Sonic can defeat Robotnik!"

"Great! I'll grab my stuff!"

"There is no time, your backpack is enough."

Why was Sonic wearing a backpack?

Because he was a perpetual nudist and had to store things somewhere.

Frankly, I'm as likely to accept that he just stores it all in hammerspace, but I don't believe American cartoons do that kind of thing.

Well, they used to. Back when American cartoons were good.

Eh, just looking at the gameplay bores me, but nice graphics...of their time anyways.

To be fair (...) I think part of the slowness comes from the fact that the level's design wasn't very speed friendly (small platforms, nooks, crannies and etc). If there was a long straight away maybe he'd of been able to pick up speed.

Or maybe it's just slow as crap. I don't know.

Yeah, but where's the fun in an area where you just run fast? Might as well have dash pads. Sonic-brand speed is part running, part dodging/attacking shit. That's what gets the adrenaline pumping. This game's M.O. seems to be "stop and attack". A 2D Heroes, if you will.

This makes me wish Sonic was able to throw rings and shoot off his quills in today's games.

Because projectile weaponry is the cornerstone of a good Sonic game.

Ugh. Don't remind me. It doesn't seem like it would be that hard to implement. How did they mess it up so badly?

Wasn't there that thing about Sammy firing over half of the bug testers?

They outsource their testing according to OCB.
