Wait a minute.

At this point anything involving a throwback to SA2 or Sonic Heroes in this new Sonic has me worried. Don't get me wrong--I liked them both (Heroes a bit less, but I still played it) but I can understand other gamers' concerns that the games were just meant to appease the "hip" standard. By the same token, if this is Sonic in the "real" world, a problem lies in there as well, simply because that's a concept only recently came to visual fruition...I don't think it went over too well, especially with SA2.

If, however, this can become a nice mesh of photorealistic graphics paired with those imaginative things we've grown accustomed to over the years, executed better than in Heroes (like a casino, for example) then I see hope.

By the way, is it just me or does Sonic's character model look eerily similar to Shadow's in the new screenies? Maybe I'm just seeing things. Also, I think something similar with day/night was tried in Chaotix...right?

I believe there needs to be more shown of this game before a "final" judgment can be passed. I've heard reports saying a lot of crowds at TGS were disappointed in the new Sonic and I can't recall the last time that's happened on a large Sonic Team project. From there, either there needs to be much more in the "innovation" sense for this game to succeed, or there needs to be more of that flashback to fantasy; a true return to the Sonic format we've loved for so many years.

Sonic in a Shenmue world, no matter how pretty the graphics are or how exquisite the physics handle, probably won't cut it. Right now, that's the picture I get in my head.

A “Sonic adventure 1â€￾ look alike updated to today standards is the best we can hope for a 3D Sonic game.

Un juego similar a “Sonic adventure 1â€￾ pero actualizado a los estándares de hoy en día, es lo mejor que podemos esperar para un juego de Sonic en 3D.

The idea of playing a game only with Sonic is great, the rest of the “good dudesâ€￾ cast can just make cameos or help you in some parts of the game. Like a flying level where Tails lift Sonic.

La idea de jugar un juego solo con Sonic es genial, el resto de los “personajes buenosâ€￾ puede solo hacer cameos o ayudarte en algunas partes del juego. Como un nivel de vuelo donde Tails lleva volando a Sonic.

I love the generally pessimistic attitude in this forum. It's such a refreshing change from the stupidly-naive optimism that seems to be the norm in Sonic-related forums.

Every time someone types "THIS IS GONNA BE THE BEST GAME EVER!!!" (though usually with less grammar than that) baby Jesus spontaneously combusts.

We all used to be like that, but you can only be disappointed so many times before you get bitter!

3 downloads? Can someone recommend one so that I might download it overnight?

Slow internet connections are no laughing matter.

It's not that they're naive, it's that they're actually going to like the horrible game.

Exactly. Those people saying "The Dukes of Hazzard Movie is going to ROCK!" aren't being naive. They mean it, and it will for them.

Because they're fucking morons.

Or it could not. If any of you ever played Psyconauts, then you might remember that Raz could jump on top of the rope as well as swing off it. Perhaps Sonic Team is looking at other games for innovative ideas, like this one, and they just wanted to show the new features off, meaning that they didn't bother to make a swinging Sonic, instead just focusing on the fact that he can now jump off ropes as well. If Sonic does swing off ropes, however, let's hope that it works like Psyconauts with the back-and-forth motion that you have to perform on the controller.

EDIT: Sorry, didn't see the phrase "a little like," meaning that he left room for improvement to the current Sonic rope system!

Also, in a world where I can say that the Boston Red Sox are defending World Series Champs, I think that they just may carry this game off. I'm getting almost the same feeling as the one I got when the Fox Sports announcer said "Back to Folke, Red Sox fans have longed to hear it..."

If he swings off ropes let's hope it works like the old Sonic games... With actual physics (unlike the pole swinging of SA2).

If the physics are as good as Naka boasts, there shouldn't be any need for those "dash pads" at all. The environment they created for the demo doesn't even take advantage of the physics beyond a visual standpoint. I think Popcorn noted this earlier.

No, FPS and shooters like Halo and Doom attract stupid gamers.

Sonic games just MAKE stupid gamers.

Sometimes they are! Although I still have trouble with them on consoles. I just picked up a new, unopened copy of Halo 2 at a garage sale for the obscene price of ten bucks this weekend, and even though I've played it before i still have trouble with it. The dual stick setup has worked fine for me in games like Splinter Cell, but in twitchier shooters I just can't hit the broad side of a barn. I think I need a mouse.

I don't see how stupid equates to fun, so no, I don't agree. @ Penquin

You just need practice. It can be done. @ Esrever.

Zeta didn't say that they weren't fun. He said they attract stupid people. You can probably allow that they also attract smart people, but maybe, to make a polite argument, the point is that they are better at attracting the stupid masses than the games we would like them to be attracted to?

Or maybe he DOES think you're stupid, or at least a bit defensive. It's really not my call.

Halo can be fun, for sure. But the type of person who gravitates toward the game and it's like en masse is not the sort of person I would want performing surgery on me, for example.

Can't you apply that to any game that recieves or will recieves the the kind of hype Halo have gotten? I mean, I'm sure there were stupid gamers back in the day that got into Sonic for example not because of the excellent gameplay, but because the commercials gave the message that the character was cool, the in-thing, so you'll become also if you purchase the games, systems, and other merchandise.

This is also seen in the disdain that Final Fantasy VII garnishes in the "Hardcore Super Nintendo" crowd.

Oh yes. And it's certainly not the fault of the stupid consumers for making it look as if all they want to play is Halo, although my understanding is that certain Microsoft focus groups have made it clear that THEY at least feel that way. If my statement were entirely true then every FPS would be a hit, which is obviously not the case, and thanks to games like Halo and HalfLife upping the production values of the genre so much we don't see nearly so many me-too's anymore. But when the companies that make other genres who do have the funds to get those production values and mold their games over an FPS cast, well, that's a little creepy if you ask me...

Well, certainly, if you bought videogames to make yourself 'cool', you're making Darwin roll in his grave.

Sorry for going off-topic. But I'm worried because I was a lot more impressed by Shadow the Hedgehog than this next gen thing. And I think Shadow will suck.
I feel pretty much like GG!, since this seems to be a hyped up SA1, when what I was hoping for was a hyped up Sonic 1.

I still think that Sonic Heroes was the 3D game with most faithful level design, but Sonic Adventure was the most fun one (hell, I went through Emerald Coast and Speed Highway like a thousand times, and didn't even need those ranks).

But I hate Sonic's long legs.

Most of Sonic Heroe's levels were ace with the exception of Hang Castle and that forest one. Of course, most of the levels were a pain as the Chaotix.

I'd be happy if we got a better SA1 though. I can't ever say I've been excited about the Shadow game though. The only thing I'm looking forward to is seeing Eggman in it. But this Sonic game still seems to have potential. The trailer has a lot of ideas which shows they are thinking along the same lines as what I want but they need to take their time to pull it off.
