This forum is a "deferred success."

Post by Grant »

A group of teachers in Britain are proposing to have the word “failâ€￾ be completely banned from classrooms (they say the word discourages kids from learning) and they want it replaced with “deferred success.â€￾ That’s right, “deferred success.â€￾

If the kid is failing the grade, I wonder if they’ll even know what “deferred successâ€￾ even means.

Just more evidence of political correctness going too far...

Couldn't make it up if I tried.

Speaking of failure, I'm going to take this opportunity to boast that I just received a fairly big promotion and finally have my own regular shift on-air, instead of just being a continual fill-in guy. Of course, I had to go to a different radio station for it to happen, but I'm still excited. Yay me.

Haha, the political correctness movement falls further into self-parody, just as they were supposed to.

How about "flunk"? I've always preferred that one, myself.

What? Deferred success... so like, derailed, or delayed success? That makes it sound like it's not the kid's fault.

You're a total goddamn catastrophe, and by God, if it kills me, you're going to tell me how this happened.

That's because it ISN'T the kid's fault. It's their learning environment, their genes and the general Labour education policies.

I've always hated that word, ever since I first saw Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure.

Faux paux is a nifty phrase.

Congratulations, Grant. I'm very proud of you. Sort of.
Ted was my hero, and I still contest that he is the best role that Keanu ever did.
And on the whole subject of not using fail, I've been doing that for years.
"Well, the first half of Algebra was a miscalculation of my intellect, and if I don't dress for P.E., it will be an educational faux paux."

Flunk is an awesome word. Especially when a certain emphasis is added to it with full conviction. Ferrrrr-lunking!

Nah, fuck that. It's still too 90's California. I prefer to say "Shit, I fucked up," or something similar.

Well yeah, if you're talking about yourself, the word flunking is only effective when used against others.
