I was reminded yesterday about a book that gave instructions on how to make character cakes with marzipan and gelatine sheets. One of the characters happened to be a Sonic The Hedgehog cake based on the Sonic 3 special stage. I never managed to borrow the book and I'm not in contact with the owner but I've ordered the book from amazon and will scan the pictures of this arse-kicking cake as soon as I get it.

I remember seeing a Sonic cake when I was a kid.It was an ice cream cake but when I ask my mom if we could get it she said no.I always wanted to try it.
I've never had a Sonic birthday cake when I was a kid, but my little brother has had two. That first one was the best one though. It not only tasted rad, but they did Sonic in his usual "arms crossed" pose, and even the orange checkers behind him. Good stuff.
For some reason, it has become tradition for my mom to get a Sonic cake for my birthday every year from this terrific bakery in the next town. This guy's a really great cake artist, so we tried to challenge him every year with different people/scenery until about 2-3 years ago when he concoted this perfect Sonic on one of his creations, and as I said, it's been the same ever since!
The book shows how to make the rings and spheres and stuff against a checkered sphere. The first Sonic cake I had for a birthday was pretty crap though, a blue rectangular hedgehog lying on it's front with blue Smarties for spikes. Hopefully I can get this book before my birthday so I can make the cake myself.
