Sonic and Mario: Lovers at last?

Post by Segaholic2 »

The latest issue of NOM Magazine has an interview with Yuji Naka, where he discusses some of the new projects for GameCube and DS.
Sonic Team head, Yuji Naka, revealed two new Sonic the Hedgehog games for Nintendo in an exclusive interview with NOM in London at the end of last year.

“We are in development with a new GameCube Sonic game, which we hope to release before the end of 2005,â€￾ Naka exclusively revealed to us. “Sonic Team is also currently making a Sonic game for the DS. We are taking our time to make sure the game makes good use of the DS’s many new features.â€￾ Double whammy!

We pressed for details and Naka revealed that the DS game will incorporate parts of the screen-rubbing Sonic tech-demo shown at E3 last year. Naka expects both titles to be playable at this year’s E3 and, as always, we’ll be there to see it all.

Pick up NOM UK next month for the full interview, where Yuji Naka reveals his secret conversations with Shigeru Miyamoto about getting Sonic and Mario to appear in a game together.

This is very old news. The full interview has been out for a month, and was already reported about on this site.

Your reading comprehension blows (Unless you took an hour to write that post, in which case I hope that it was well worth it to waste an hour thinking up a genius plot to discredit Segaholic2.), and you can't even log in correctly.

"secret conversations"? Sounds pretty gay to me.

"Secret conversations" is double-speak for whispering into one another's ear from behind while together in bed at night. Miyamoto's the top and enjoys waving around his Master Sword replica while getting down on Naka.

I guess this explains a lot about the Nintendo DS and its "rubbing" system...

All this hype will most likely just end up to be another Smash Bros. but this time with Sonic, which they will make the game's main selling point. "Two life-long rivals come together in one awesome game!!!" will probabily be one of the lines they'll use to rope us in to make us buy a game that is pretty much just like melee but with the Blue Blur tacked on to everything.

EDIT: Oh, and Sonic DS will most likely suck too. Pessimisim to the MAX!!!

It'd be nice if they actually made a game where Sonic and Mario's distinctive play styles meshed together in a clever and enjoyable way, but it's about a million times more likely that they'll just cop out and do a fighting game, yeah.

Sonic's playstyle is generally just a faster version of Mario that can't jump as high or as complex. So I don't see how that would work out well.

Sonic would be zipping all over the place, and Mario would be - wall-jumping. Who wins in that situation?

Mario can grow many times his normal height, throw fireballs, disguise himself as a statue, hop around in a huge invincible shoe of death, swim, and fly.

Not that I know how any of that would change things. I'm just saying.

Yeah, but for all that shit he needs power ups while Sonic is fast from the go. Heck even Cream could probably whip Mario's arse.

I reckon some sort of Eggman/Wario platform game could be pretty decent. I mean, both characters are more evenly matched in terms of personalities and potential abilities, and what with them both being comedic bad guys you could get away with the game being a bit more wacky and tounge-in-cheek. Think about it.

Without the Chao demon from the underworld, Cream is useless. Cream needs Cheese to do the atacks.

True, Demonic Chao Cheese could kick Mario's arse but Cream would struggle.

Hmmm, Wario... and Eggman... they would just argue who has the best tache.

Eggman- "Mines bigger."

Wario- "Do you know how long it took to make mine THIS wavy!?"

Mario- "But neither give off the pornstar vibe as mine does!!"

I think a nice thing they could do was give Square the rights to make an RPG with Sonic and Mario. Maybe in that way, we wouldn't have a giant lizard in the end, like a Perfect Bowser or Koopa Overlord or something like that and the game wouldn't have tennis or golf or fishing, only, uhm, chocobos maybe. And summons. And, magic and weapons... Yeah, forget what I said.

One would think that you could switch between Sonic and Mario for certain things, like Mario for wall jumps between two conveniently close buildings, and Sonic for curling up in tube sized objects. Plus, both of them have the nifty ability to cross large gaps by jumping on stuff...
Yeah. This is starting to suck.
