This is becoming a little tangential, but is anybody else really bugged by the way that the "proper" (i.e. high quality) version of the ending, because it runs faster, actually ends up not fitting the length of the music (either one) at all?

Or am I the only person here autistic enough to sincerely care?

I watched it a million times on Sonic Jam when I was a kid so. . .no? The slow one looks weird as fuck to me now.

This could easily be fixed by having the movie run in full screen and placing the text credits in between each of the different stage clips.

Some new screenshots at the end... one a of a new stage for the 3DS version and one of a particular cutscene of a birthday party...

1. Vector is so gonna eat that whole cake himself.
2. If its true that there's a 5 year gap between Colors & Gens, shouldn't Cream be noticeably older now?
3. Everyone will disagree with me here but not enough characters. Where's Shadow, Big, Vanilla, Tikal, Mighty or Omega? I mean Mighty's mug is in the game, go ahead & give himself an appearance already.
4. For that matter this would seem like the perfect moment to actually let some alternate continuity characters make a damn appearance for once. I mean its a celebration of the Sonic's history right? Go whole hedgehog with it.

It's sweet how Rouge was the only member of Team Dark that wasn't bastardly enough to prohibit an invitation. Really, I'm more surprised the Chaotix turned up when Sonic seems to go out of his way to avoid ever having to speak a word to them. Oh, and Knuckles thinks he's going to eat all the cupcakes when he doesn't have the manual dexterity to operate them.

Taxman for SCD confirmed, by the way:
SEGA® of America, Inc. and SEGA® Europe Ltd. today announced that Sonic CD™ will debut on mobile phones and consoles everywhere. The game was originally released for the SEGA CD™ system in 1993, and included the first appearance of fan favorite characters Metal Sonic and Amy Rose. Sonic CD is coming to digital platforms with music from the original Japanese soundtrack. The beloved prequel to Sonic The Hedgehog 4™ Episode I is coming to Xbox LIVE® Arcade for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation®Network, iPhone® and iPod® touch, iPad™, Windows PC Digital Download, Android and Windows Phone and will be available for download in late 2011.

“Ask any Sonic fan to name their favorite games, and Sonic CD always ranks near the top of their lists,” said Haruki Satomi, Vice President of Digital Business at SEGA of America. “Sonic CD marks an important chapter in Sonic's history, bridging the gap between his oldest adventures and his new digital exploits like Sonic The Hedgehog 4 Episode I. We've made sure the re-mastered edition has everything that Sonic fans want to see with all of the original colorful classic zones.”

Following the classic story of the original, Sonic CD sees Dr Eggman plan to cause chaos and take control of the future by stealing Time Stones from the Little Planet. Sonic must speed through levels and travel through time while fending off Eggman's robots to recover the Time Stones, and save Amy Rose from his mechanical twin, Metal Sonic! This fast-paced game will return with brand new features including enhanced widescreen graphics, special iOS features, Xbox LIVE Achievements, PSN Trophies, PC Achievements and more.

The re-release of Sonic CD will be making its public debut at the Microsoft booth at PAX Prime in Seattle, August 26–28, 2011. For more information on Sonic CD, please visit http://www.sega.com/
Well, not here, but he's personally confirmed that this is his thing!

Sonic 4 ep. 2 hawking aside, Nintendo itself couldn't be bothered to give Super Mario All-Stars a proper upgrade.

We're through the looking glass, people!

Well, it looks like at least one of my days at PAX will be spent playing the new Sonic CD. Curse you, Sega.

Oh shush, Nintendo always does the exact same thing, reminding you Ocarina of Time 3D is a thing whenever discussing Skyward Sword.

The fact that a re-release of a 1993 game is getting so much attention sure speaks lots about Sega's track record. It's neat and all, and I'm glad Taxman ended up being this successful, but a part of me rather wishes the Retro Engine was a public tool to allow people to create their own Sonic game without having to spend 10 years trying to get the physics right. Maybe someday we'll see the best of both worlds? There was that PlaySEGA thing, anyway.

1) After Streets of Rage Remake was not spared the wrath of the lawyers, i'm not so confident anymore that a public release of the engine would be safe from that; this is a moot point anyway though, as I think Taxman said years ago that he wanted to be able to profit off of his dev tools

2) Quite frankly, witnessing Retro's shining example of behavior for the past few years, as much as they pout and fling shit at each other, would you give them anything?

I believe that chili dogs were canon in Unleashed. You had the missions and you would win varieties of chilli dogs.
Spoilers just in case anyone still cares:
Also pretty sure the reason why Shadow and Silver aren't in that party shot because they are bosses. Can't explain the lack of Big and Omega though.

Or Marine, for that matter. Not that I care, just that Uekawa characters seem to have a mandate that they never go away unless they're for real killed off (or are one-shot magi-humans).

The lack of Classic characters in that screen make me suspect there'll be two celebrations. Wonder if who'll show up there.

All the Sonic characters who have both Classic & Modern looks...

Sonic
Tails
Knuckles
Amy
Espio
Charmy
Vector
Robotnik
Metal Sonic

So taking out Metal & Robotnik, the remaining characters would be likely candidates. Maybe they'll throw in some other classic only characters.

Classic Blaze, Rouge, Silver etc. would be mildly interesting.

I feel like the picnic is probably from the opening cutscene explaining the story. Looks like we won't get as awesome of an opener as we did in Unleashed.

It's weird that Sega is using a fan-made engine. Of course they don't mention it in the press release. Hopefully it runs well on 360 and PS3 too. If this is actually better than the Gems Collection version, I may have to get it.

The characters at the picnic are the race/co-op characters from the demo leak.

Didn't the Sonic Advance 3 guide say that Sonic likes chilli dogs?

I actually think the smaller amount is nice. It feels like a more intimate kind of affair. I wish they'd address the fact that these characters all live hundreds of miles apart from eachother and that its a big deal for them to be together like this. I also love the idea that we'll be rescuing(collecting) them in Generations. It's a good story.

as for the characters you listed,

Shadow is a boss battle
Big I guess could be there and it not be weird.
Who the fuck is Vanilla?
Tikal is dead
Mighty is hardly even a character
Omega could have been there. He's more or less the spiritual representative to Beta, who we all love

I think the party could have used some more flickes or sonic's older friends like pocky, rocky etc

I like that train of thought. It baffles me, anyway, why the Chaotix and Blaze are present. The Chaotix had one bit of nonverbal communication with Sonic near the end of Heroes, and I don't believe traveling to and fro Sonic and Blaze's dimensions has been implied to be easy.

I think that one screen shot of Emerald Coast looks really neat, to be honest.

Sonic and Tails showed up at the end of Chaotix though, so I think they must know each other from that. I would assume they hung out off-camera!

I'm betting that ST rendered a shit-load of old artwork without thinking of their respective associated work. But still, a little slice of Americana for you <3.
