Sonic Riders Kinect

Post by gr4yJ4Y »

In Microsoft's E3 press conference this morning, they showed the covers on the first 15 games that will have Kinect (formally known as Project Natal) support. Included in the list was Sonic Free Riders, the newest in the Riders series. Not much of anything has been announced so far other than it exists. Kinect and Sonic Free Riders come out November 4.

So in your opinion, which words can a Sonic game title contain in order for it not to be instantaneously shitty?

I think it's very nice of them to release a free Sonic game!

Its microsite thing: http://www.sega.com/games/?g=6714

And I think I prefer the free Sonic games other people are offering over the webz...

"Kinect"? Natal was an ok name - certainly less generic-sounding.

So is this a new entry in the Riders sub-series or just a remake of the first one? I can't tell.

It is a new title for XBLA, I think.

I really like Sonic Riders. It's not very good, but I like it. If they just fix the difficulty/learning curve and make the special ramp moves easier to pull off they'd be onto something.

So basically if the games were playable.

Zero Gravity fixed most of those problems.

Yes, by removing all technique and rendering the game a giant, slow-paced QTE crapshoot.

Well at least it didn't have me spinning my analog nub like Mario Party.

True, but do you want to be caught in your living room while playing this with the Kinect feature?

Not knocking on anything against the gameplay (this IS what it was meant to do), but I don't think I would be comfortable with having to paddle my arms like I'm in a sissy fight against 3 other players watching me whenever my character has to go underwater.

Let's hope it isn't. "Kinect-supported" shouldn't translate to "Kinect-exclusive". And if it does, you already know I'll skip on this title.

The game as we know so far will not support anything besides Kinect, according to the Sega's account on Twitter, which for some reason doesn't allow linking to individual messages:
@sonicfan1989 No, you will need Kinect to play Sonic Free Riders. ^kellie

I read some people pointing out the parallels between kinect and the 32X, right down to launch price. Figures there'd be yet another Sonic game that'll evade the grasp of non-spoiled kids. Not that they'll be missing much.

So I don't get it, is this like Sony's Eye Toy on PS2? Most of the launch games look like the dregs of the Wii's library.

Hey, that guy was in first position though. Either he practised a lot or this one has a nice learning curve?

It looks like an Eye Toy if the Eye Toy actually worked.

As for the game, it is Sonic Riders. You either get in first place or last place based upon which design flaws come into action. I watched SEGA staff get in last place on another video.

Also Destructoid or whatever it is called said we should not get this game (we needed their advice apparently). It is too gimmicky (not that Kinect is at fault there) and it has Sonic's friends (racing games should have just one character you know!).

Sonic racing clones of himself (actual genetic clones, not Shadow or fanthings or what have you) might actually be interesting. But that's not what they meant.

I still don't get how this is going to work. It probably won't!
