Which Sonic game would you most like to see a direct sequel to (similar to Mario Galaxy 2 being a direct sequel to Mario Galaxy)?
-Sonic 1
-Sonic 2
-Sonic 3/&Knuckles
-Knuckles' Chaotix
-Sonic Adventure
-Sonic Adventure 2
-Sonic Heroes
-Sonic (2006)
-Sonic and the Secret Rings
-Sonic Unleashed
-Sonic Advance
-Sonic Advance 2
-Sonic Advance 3
-Sonic Rush/Rush Adventure
-Other

I would certainly not mind a mission-pack sequel to SA2, though I'm sure I'm in the minority when I say that. No need for a plot or anything, though different environments (such as a casino/carnival stage) would be nice. Perhaps a bit more divergent path flow.

Do we really need yet another casino/carnival stage?

I know, there were so many of those in Sonic Adventure 2 I died a little inside.

I'd pick Chaotix, since I figure the idea had potential. Also, aren't half the games on the list already direct sequels?

I mean very subtle things like differences in atmosphere and story structure in Sonic Adventure 2 compared to SA1 or having no spin-dash in Sonic 1 compared to Sonic 2. Or having double jump abilities that lead to multiple paths in S3&K.

If it looks poisonous, I squish without a second thought. Otherwise, I don't bother them.

I meant the franchise as a whole features way too many of those kind of levels.

Good to see you got back to me two months later, but you made me think about something. Do you guys consider Spring Yard and/or Collision Chaos to be "casino/carnival zones"? I mean, they have the bobbins, but then again so does the special stage. Collision Chaos comes a bit closer with the pinball flippers, but they both still lack a certain je ne sais quoi that make them feel off. Is it because they're not really that cheery, Spring Yard in particular?

Probably. Though I typically don't consider Spring Stadium to be among the casino/carnival theme, either. Perhaps it's more the number of gimmicks? Slot machines, platforms, cannons, balloons... I guess the concept of a bobbin/bumper is more common in Sonic games, so I don't really see it as a stage-defining feature.

Maybe you're going about it the wrong way. Instead of "Casino" levels, you want "Bouncy" levels. (But then you might have to include Wacky Workbench.

Games like 3D Blast, Spinball, Mean Bean Machine and such weren't canon, so I didn't think they should be included.

I thought we stopped worrying about "canon" as far as it concerned Sonic years ago.

I don't know how 3D Blast wasn't "canon" anyway. It isn't based on the TV shows like Spinball and Mean Bean are.

3D's characters weren't hilariously off-model either.

Really though, if some of its tracks were good enough for Sonic Team to reuse for Sonic Adventure, why not?

For now on the official Sonic canon (in chronological order) is as follows:

1. Shadow the Hedgehog
2. Sonic and the Black Knight
3. G Sonic
4. The second half of Sonic Heroes
5. The Archie comic series (in its entirety)
5. Daytona USA (overlapping time-wise with the comics)
6. Arrested Development
7. Luigi's Mansion

If you can't see it, you're just not thinking hard enough. And more importantly, you're not a real Sonic fan.

Wow, you're such a noob. Sonic Eraser is clearly an alternate-continuity spinoff.
