GG!, as great as these classics are, what about more modern fare like the new game based on Fight Club? Besides a solid fighting game, its close adherence to the source material is sure to turn a few heads!

In terms of recent triumphs in the field of interactive one-on-one combat, I have to say that my heart goes to the ineffable Kakuto Chojin, tragically taken off the market. Though Kabuki Warriors receives honorable mention, and Tao Feng a masterpiece in its own right.

I voted for Virtual Fighter (I had #2 in mind), but I wasn't thinking at the time, otherwise I would have went with Virtual On. <3 robots

I can't believe Street Fighter, King of Fighters, and Mortal Kombat have a combined total of a single vote. You young gamers ought to know your roots.

Personally I chose Virtua Fighter, but Street Fighter would be a very close second...

Mindless obsession with old things is sort of pointless. Unless it's music.

I must also nominate the oft overlooked Street Fighter: The Movie game, a triumph of programming and creative design, based on the equally resplendent theatrical movie.

I'm afraid if I begin singing the praises of Rise of the Robots, the spiritually reverent tones in my voice will be skewed by the orgasmic fits the mere thought of such a fantastic milestone in interactive media will send me into.

I voted Street Fighter, 2D for life! Insane combo's and holding back to block is the only fighting style.

Has anyone else here played any of the Gamecube (currently Japanese only) Naruto titles? If you had they would make the list. They're an interesting balance between Super Smash Bros. and older Capcom fighters.

I hate posting about things concerning my avatar...

So, is this guy from Naruto? I never cared to know much about the show, but it sounds fun.

His avatar is of Rock Lee, a comic relief character. You can tell because he's ugly and has big eyebrows.

Surely you're forgetting Battle Arena Toshinden, which redefined the genre for a new generation and is single-handedly responsible for the success of Sony's "Playstation" console.

But alas! You also forget the wonderful magic of Inuyasha: A Feudal Fairy Tale! Wonderful licensing effort, and not at all wasted localization. Plus, the brillaint graphics are so detailed that only an extremely focused individual could tell that it wasn't real life.

Not tryin' to be a hater, Gibbon. I have big eyebrows and not even close to attractive, either. I'm just saying it's a common thing for lazy artists to do when trying to make a joke character in an anime / video game. Dan from Street Fighter, Duck King from Fatal Fury, Kuwabara from YuYu Hakusho, etc.

Street Fighter and King of Fighters are the best old fighting games but I'm much more partial to SSB as of right now. Soul Calibur is okay but didn't hold my attention for long. Dead or Alive wasn't all that fun to play either...

I like to play Soul Calibur II on Xbox with my college buddies in our dorm in between date rapes and Mudfest frisbee competitions.

Actually they joke about his eye brows being a reason he can't be taken seriously in the show. And while he's there for some comic relief, other characters in the anime and used more for humour than him (such as Naruto... dur...). He's actually the main character in some of the best serious episodes so far.
