Shadow looks overly stupid when he carries those guns that're three times the size of his own body.

You mean with this bad boy?

Hee hee. It does look overly stupid. But watch the video, man. It's looking more and more like the speed stages of Sonic Adventure 2 as oppose to Sonic Heroes with guns. The Chaos Control also has a cool "fwhoosh" sound effect to it.

It does look good; I just fear Sonic Team will get the 3D formula right for once, but with a Shadow game. It's an option if you want to use guns, yes?

Why the hell are Sonic, Rouge, and Knuckles following Shadow around? Is there some sort of partner system that I haven't heard about?

Those guns are terribly modeled.

Apparently. In every level there's someone who follows you to either bug you to do some objective for them or to help you out. I read it's possible to ditch them if you just run fast enough.

I actually like that claymation-esque art style they use in the CG cut scenes.

There! I found one thing I like about this game.

ONLY one thing.

One thing is a lot for GHZ's standards, no?

I love it, but I don't think it fits the tone they're going for. Then again, I don't think Shadow and Sonic and friends really fit the tone they're going for...

After playing almost nothing but 2-D games all summer, I'm looking forward to almost any kind of 3-D adventure.

Is Shadow the Hedgehog really a 3D game? Most of the levels shown so far seem to consist of narrow, 2D-like paths, which ‘fake’ 3D by being suspended over a bottomless pit.

IGN have posted an interview with Iizuka here, although most of the questions and responses seem to have been recycled from previous interviews.

IGN: Were there movies or films that inspired the look or direction of Shadow?

Iizuka: We use a variety of different mediums to gather inspiration from, but the true ideas…the heart of Shadow…comes from the brilliant minds of our internal art department. I can, however, say that we did reference films like Underworld, Constantine and even Terminator series while creating concept art for Shadow. These movies and more were used to create the image of what we thought Shadow and his world would be.
Speaks for itself.

Iizuka and co. wouldn't know inspiration if it came up and shot them in the face. I wouldn't mind if the whole team got shot in the face, though.

Wait, he's moved up to the ranks of Producer? I thought he was directing this.

Naka was never involved in this game in the first place.

If it's anything like the film industry, direction is actively crafting the way the game looks and plays (or at least, telling the programmers exactly how to craft it like the director wants) while producers just sort of scrape cash together for the project and try their best to sound important. Accordingly, I wouldn't consider being just the producer "moving up the ranks".

Then why would a company promote their talented developers to be producers, where they no longer have much input in their products? That's just stupid. They should just pay them more.

Producers DO have a pretty big influence on the direction of a project, though.

Bearing in mind j-man studied the media of film, I have to side with him. Producers are pretty much wallets with legs, the amount of money they put forward to a film may effect how the director goes about things but it's up to the director to as effective as possible no matter the size of the budget. Clerks? Resevoir Dogs?

If you guys don't think that producers influence the content of a film, you are far, far, FAR more optimistic about the film industry than I am. I'm sure that most directors would LOVE to find a producer that will just fork up the money and butt out, but good luck with that!
