To be this good takes ages
:FJ: Sega Retro Exhibit
The announcement of Shadow the Hedgehog may signal a new dark and depressing era of Sega gaming, but over in Japan gamers can relive what some may consider to be Sega’s golden age with the launch of a new retro exhibit.

Held at the Sega game centre in Toyohashi, the exhibit is an authentic recreation of 1980s gaming arcades containing the same style of cabinets used from the era. Visitors can play 19 arcade classics including Afterburner II, Super Hang On and Out Run Turbo. Sonic fans are also catered for, as a range of Mega Drive games are available to play including the original Sonic the Hedgehog.

The exhibit will remain open until May 8.
More details can be found at IT Media.

:FUK: McDonalds Sonic toys come to the UK

Mc Donalds UK have just launched the ‘Sega 2: The Next Generation’ range of Happy Meals toys with Sonic Skateboarding and Cream's Flower Catch being the first games released.

The Billy Hatcher and Big the Cat toys are absent from the flyers supporting the promotion, which suggests that only six of the eight games released in the US will make it to the UK. The UK editions appear to differ from their US counterparts as the batteries can be removed, even though the instructions accompanying the toys describe them as ‘non-replaceable’.

^The instructions label the battery as being non-replaceable and yet the diagram shows how to remove it.

^ Billy and Big are banned in Britain

A TV advertising campaign is supporting the launch and you’ll be able to download the commercial from the GHZ Newsboard in the next few days.

The Happy Meal promotion runs from 23 March to 26 April. Week one is Sonic and Cream, week two is Shadow and Rouge & Amy, week 3 is Tails and Knuckles and weeks 4 and 5 are whatever the stores have left in stock.

In other news, the old Sonic Adventure action figures from Toy Island (not the fantastic Resaurus ones) have been re-released under the Sonic X label. Available figures are Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Big and Eggman. Each figure comes complete with accessories such as Chaos Emeralds.

They're in the Argos catalogue. Shall I do the scanning duties?

Actually, they were banned in Brasil too! Those are the same exact games that came with the Happy Meal here in, like, October last year.
Bah, I didn't get Cream's... And the instructions showed the same "non-replaceable" thingmabob.

I never took mine out of the packaging, but the Eggman is really a pretty nice-looking figure. I suspect the posability is really limited, but at least it looks nice (and at a good scale) alongside my Resaurus set. The Sonic Adventure version included Coconuts and a bomb (in addition to the chaos emeralds), but the new one doesn't.

I only have Eggman and Big from the set. Big is actually more on-model than the ReSaurus version. Actually, except for E-102, the ReSaurus ones are all a bit off-model.

Is there any way to buy those toys now? I missed out the first time because I was a dumb little kid way back then. :(

When I got those bendy Sonic figures, Knuckles annoyingly didn't have his white collar. I see they fixed that now that it's under the Sonic X label.

My brother got one of the McDnalds toys in his happy meal. I wasn't really impressed with it, it was bit rubbish really.

I am Grant the Prognosticator. You will die on a Thursday and a woman in your life will sell your corpse for five thousand dollars on e-Bay. She will then use the money to buy an extremely rare Sonic plushie crafted by Ohshima himself.

Why is that Cream the Rabbit McDonalds toy selling second hand in my local games store for £7.50?

I got the cream and sonic games the other week, my little brother has the odd burger and of course gets a toy, so I pinched them!

first time I seen some too, pretty small screens, was thinking it was a little bigger.

Could add a joke here but don't think I will. Anyway, they're only happy meal toys so they arent going to be too flash. It's the first time McDonalds included LCD games if I remember right though.

*Ding-dong* Not really, but as a chef I don't exactly go to McDonalds anyway.
