Some are better than Shadow's, so I guess he stole his from GUN, and not the SSPD.

Yep those are the ones.

While those SMGs/Carbines may look badder then Shadow's they seem to be limited to semi-automatic fire anyway. They do look pretty cool and seem fairly original. Point is, Shadow's gun should be the same. Something familiar enough that we buy it as a gun, but something a bit different.

So far we've seen Shadow brandish a .45, an MP5 and some generic looking assault rifle. And that's all just in one preview video.

You know, it's ironic. After the kid-oriented dialogue of Sonic Heroes, I remember wishing that the games I grew up with would grow up with me.

This is not what I meant.

Sega Press Release wrote:Shadow The Hedgehog allows players to collect an arsenal of weapons, vehicles, and objects to rocket through more than 50 missions. In his feature debut, Shadow is tormented by a dark past, struggling to discover his true identity. He is caught in a complex battle between aliens, the G.U.N. army, and Dr. Eggman, and discovers that he may be the very element that will tip the scales between good and evil forever.
So he's supposed to be, what, Shadow the Messiah, or something? ?_?

Or maybe if he does enough good deeds, kills some evil lawyers, and stops a rogue, soul-sucking god, after the apocalypse, he'll become human again.

If they're trying for a "tortured hero" shtick, foget it; instead of Angel or Spike, they're giving us Connor.

Those who know what I'm talking about, feel free to shudder.

Or vomit.

It's all up to you.

Sega Press Release wrote:Is he an android created by Dr. Eggman? Is he the original Shadow simply suffering from amnesia? Or is there an even more sinister explanation? Now, gamers will decide in a race against time by choosing between any number of routes by which to unveil the secrets of his past. Multiple endings will reflect critical decisions at every stage of the game. Gamers have ultimate control over Shadow's past, with the potential to rewrite his history time and time again.
Uh...

Big_Smile wrote:The story could feature multiple Shadows, who start their quest simultaneously, unaware of the presence of the other (similar to how the multiple characters worked in Sonic Heroes and the Advance games). Instead of Shadow's origins changing to reflect the player's choices, the game will simply switch which Shadow the story focuses on. Accessing all the multiple endings will unlock a 'last' mode that validates all three stories, by showing the Shadows teaming up to stop yet another dragon-like final boss. ^_^
I kinda like it. And, given the circumstances, that's probably the best I'll get.

As said elsewhere, though, it seems more like there's only one Shadow, and they just continue to re-write the same story, all of which are cannon. >_<

SquirrellKnight wrote:It doesn't sound so much like GTA to me... It just sounds like a total rip of Ratchet and Clank, except they replaced Ratchet with a character that's even stupider.

And I'm guessing those things Shadow is fighting in that screen are the "aliens" the blurb mentions. Goddamn, ST could've atleast stylized them a little so that they'd fit in with the Sonic aesthetic.

Well, atleast they haven't dragged Sonic himself into this. Yet.
First off, I've actually enjoyed what I've played of the "Ratchet & Clank" games.

*The Scarlet Scorpion shrugs passively.*

And yeah, those things are probably the aliens. I think they look sorta Chao(s)y, y'know? Like they may retcon Chaos from being a Force of Nature to being a rogue spacefarer... or maybe the aliens are worshipers of said Force of Nature (God -- another "Angel" season four flashback...).

And yeah, they do stick out, don't they?

G.Silver wrote:The ability to "choose" Shadow's past speaks well for Sega's attitude regarding him, they obviously don't care how he comes about. It suggests that whatever goes on in this game, since you can discover multiple "origins," none of it has any effect on whatever games they decide to do later and Shadow the Hedgehog will be its own unique game that has nothing to do with anything else. Admittedly that ignores all this "it will be a great cornerstone franchise money blahblahblah" but hopefully it just pushes Shadow further away from Sonic's proper games.
Interesting point; you may very well be right on the money with that one.

I dunno about aliens, but there were supposedly some UFOs or sumthin in Sonic 1.
That was in the "Beta" version of The Marble Zone -- they were scrapped by the time the game was released.

And to me they always looked like giant, styalized eyeballs... weird.

Thank you, Del, that was always a pet peeve of mine. Oh, and it's U.F.O. (generally, when an acronym has periods after each letter, it's to be said/read one letter at a time [C.I.A., U.K., U.N.]. When there aren't any periods, it is to be considered one word [UNICEF, SMERSH, PFLAG]. There are some exceptions to these rules, but those are generally limited to brand names and other trademarked and/or copyrighted things). Mind you, in Japan it's ufo (pronounced "oo-foe"), but since we're all speaking English here I'll try not to be too anal.

And yet again, I fail at that.

I have no feelings toward the game for I havn't tried it yet. I just hope Sonic 2K5 (Tentative title for the Gamecube Sonic game Yuji Naka mentioned awhile ago) isn't anything like the game is all. On a related note, the game does look better than Sonic Heroes, despite the new theme and the unnatural changes. But like I said, all running action stages. We've been begging for those for quite a long time. My hope is that Sonic 2K5 will have 'em as well, with simplistic Sonic gameplay. You know, instead of Homing Attack, why not allow Sonic to do the W Kaiten Attack? When Sonic uses that move on an enemy, that could cause him to go flying in the air like the Sonic the Hedgehog 3: Sonic & Knuckles. PING, WHOOSH!

Specter wrote:Wow... just when I thought Shadow's backstory couldn't get any more bizarre, Sega pulls an inverted time paradox out of the bag 'o tricks so that the future outcome of events shapes the events themselves! It's like alternate timelines . . . backwards!! Geez; even Chrono Cross's quantum fiction wasn't THAT convoluted compared to this crazy setup.

And aliens. Oooh, I'm takin' bets that the origin of the Gizoid technology (Emerl) gets explained somewhere along the way, or at least considered.

All in all, Shadow's backstory seems to have gotten Matrix-ed: "Do not try to straighten the story; that's impossible. Instead, only try to realize the truth . . ."
Personally, I figured that the Gizoid(s) were either A.) created by the post-Pachacamac Echidna civilization (after all, in "S.A." it was shown that Chaos wiped out the Echidnas, and in "S.t.H.3&K.", something to the effect of The Great God [Tikal? Chaos?] restored the civilization, and hurled them into the sky, and this restored Echidna civilization was the one that made all those high-tech Zones and gizmos); or B.) some other ancient civilization who destroyed themselves (Atlantis, maybe?). I'm getting this "Big O" vibe from them, either way.

And I've still yet to see "The Matrix" trilogy, sadly. But then I heard only the first one was any good, and that one was stolen from some poor writer out in California.

Greetings, Specter. I know this whole thing sounds complicated, but I made up a cool theory at Sonic Stadium. Care to read on?
Sonic Stadium post wrote:
Since what you do in this game effect's Shadow's past, then there might be a way as to how that can possibly happen. What if in Shadow the Hedgehog, in the story, he gets warped back into the past with an over-powering burst of Chaos Control, messing the the time and space continuum. Where does Eggman come in? You know that guy gets invovled with everything. I believe he too will be wraped back in the past along with Shadow. We don't know how. Maybe Eggman used a machine, or interfered with the burst somehow. This is the part where Shadow provokes the strand of time, resulting in him coverting the events in his past... Which may become fatal (I put the word in italics just so you can hear what you want). If this is Shadow's last appearence ever, then in the end, whether he's a clone or not, he will be escorted to the Afterlife by the spirit of Maria, which he is greeted by all of the other Shadow clones. Eggman on the other hand is thankful that he got to see Shadow one last time and goes back in the present, ending Shadow's legacy for all that is right.

So... a self-fulfilling event loop, in other words. Shadow Future goes back, does whatever to his own past, maybe even brings himself into existence or some other such moment-of-origin-less insanity, but in any case he influences events that potentially decide whether he's the Real Shadow, a Shadow Clone, some other form of Shadow Doppleganger, or something altogether Else, . . .

. . . so, in essence, the Shadow of this theory both does and does not exist... simultaneously.
GOD!

Maybe Chris wasn't just trying to irritate us all. Maybe he was serious.

Yeah, sure.

It's like what Paul Cornell, Lawrence Miles, Stephen Cole, and Justin Richards did with "Doctor Who"!

Only I don't think we'll be lucky enough to have Russell T. Davies to come along and say "**** you" to them all and write it all out.

Speaking of which, did anyone here see the new "Doctor Who" T.V. show? If so, how was it (though we better start a new thread to handle that... or maybe you can just P.M. me. I just don't know when or if my local PBS stations will be carrying it, and the old series is my favorite show, so... could you please?)?

Specter wrote:ImageWow... you guys took that whole idea so far out of context that it must be in a different time zone by now.
