In the world of execs the reasoning for Metal Sonic not being the star is:
Metal Sonic is cool.
Cool is so 90's
Badass is the cool of the new millenium.
Badass = Money
Anti-Hero = Badass
Goth = money?
Anti-Hero Goth = Badass + Money?
Badass + Sonic = no
Badass + Devil May Cry = Yes
Devil May Cry + Sonic = Badass
Badass Sonic = Shadow
Shadow = Money
Devil May Cry + Shadow = Money
Money = Pissed off fans
Pissed off fans = Alienating main market
Alienating main market = Homeless Bums who used to work for Sega
Homeless bums who used to work for Sega = Justice

Sorry, back again...
That was no cuss to Craig, he was perfectly right and I totally agree.
I only meant that I was right in accordance to Double-S with the switch of Shadow to Metal Sonic having some possibility of making a better game.
So there you go, at the end of the day it's me whose full of shit.
Anyway maybe we could use Chaos Control to warp the time back to the 90's so Metal Sonic is "cool" again, I think I had a machine for it in my shed from Toysr'us.

Didn't Naka also say that Sonic Heroes and Puyo Fever were experiements in multi-platform development and that they had learned that Sonic Team doesn't have the resources to to keep that sort of thing up? Is Shadow confirmed on any actual platforms yet? I noticed IGN is assuming it is on all three (all their site "branches" are covering it, even Xbox), and that might also point to the possibility that Sonic Team is working on something else...Naka-san said the new game would be released at the end of 2005, which would tie in with the release date of the trailer. However, he did say it would be unveiled at E3. He also mentioned that the new game would mix 2D with 3D, which doesn’t occur in this new Shadow game (although, he didn’t specify if he was talking about the Gamecube title or Sonic DS).
In the trailer, you can see triangle and square (etc) signs at one point. I'd imagine it'll be on Gamecube too, since Heroes and SA2B sold so well on that format.G.Silver wrote:

Maybe the plan is to release a new Sonic game for the GC and this Shadow game for the PS2? As silly as the concept is, it does look like they were at least trying to appeal to an older audience than the kids that bought Heroes and SA2B.
Also, it would seem really bizarre for them to release screenshots from the most graphically inferior version of a multi-system release, wouldn't it?
Those shots of Shadow with the Deagle don't look as idiotic as some of the other stuff from the trailer, but I guess that's probably because it's slightly smaller. The shot of the artwork is actually pretty decent, but that's probably because it's done in an artstyle that complements the game's motif. It still doesn't explain away why Shadow is so out of character, but at least it doesn't look as fucking ridiculous as seeing his rubbery Heroes model running around with a gun the size of his head.

The gun doesn't look like a Desert Eagle. In the artwork it's a 1911-styled pistol but in the game it looks like... a block. [/chriscaffee]
...Okay, I'll never do that again.
But nothing looks "less idiotic" than anything else. They're all equally gaytarded to the extreme. That artwork may have high production values, but that doesn't mean it still doesn't suck some major dongle.

I seem to remember Naka saying in an interview that he want's to keep the series pure. Well WTF is this?!?!
Also (a few mentioned something like this), the engine seems to be a mix of SA2B and Heroes. The environment looks like SA2, and the model looks similar (but not exactly) like the Heroes model. Also, I noticed Shadow doing that move from Heroes where the speed characters could jump like ninjas between walls:
