TGS Puyo Tournament: Sonic vs Wax

Post by big_smile »

Image The recent Puyo Tournament at the 2004 Tokyo Games Show was a star studded event with both the game’s producer, Mr Takashi Yuda, and Sonic the Hedgehog playing active roles in the contest.

Yuda-san acted as the tournament host, by declaring the start and end of each round. He also briefly talked about the DS version of the game, revealing that it would be fully compatible with the system’s stylus.

Sonic joined 5 guys and two girls from the audience to form the team of eight contests. Sadly, the blue blur will have to add Puyo playing to his list of weaknesses as the winner of the game was one of the guys (whose name incorrectly translates as ‘Mr sliced-raw-fish and wax’).

^ The father of Knuckles could be rectifying the design drought the Sonic series is experiencing, but instead has been given the task of spear-heading the Puyo’s quest for global domination. Oh well.

Sonic was certainly busy at the show as he also acted as the mascot for SegaEmu’s booth:

There weren’t any Sonic Team games at the booth, but if emulation and retro gadgets are your thing, check out the Sega Emu TGS page

This just a bit more of Sega’s “Sonic must be everywhere, but not at the same time. Because that would saturate the market and Sonic popularity would die.â€￾
