Sega not attending E3

Post by big_smile »

Sega will not be attending E3 this year:

SOA's move to Southern California is cited as the reason for the absence, although the firm will have a presence at the show via its partners.

I guess the plans for a cross platform 2015 Sonic have been scrapped.

Why would they go? As near as I can tell, sega doesn't even make games anymore save for total war.

They went last year with only 3 games to show. Plus, based on the leak from last year, it was expected they would use E3 to showcase the next Sonic title (Although that expectation was dashed earlier in this year with the lack of the regular pre-announcement).

The lack of a Sonic game for 2015 is somewhat interesting as it means the next title will have a three year development cycle instead of the usual two.
(It could possibly even be a 5 year cycle, as it is often said that Sonic Team operates as two divisions, which alternate between releases, but I've never found anything to confirm this).

If it has been delayed, then that's welcome change from Sega's usual pace.

After Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric, I don't blame them for staying as far away from Sonic console games as possible.

“I’ve been talking to the employees about how we should start putting serious consideration into quality from this point on. Especially in North America and Europe, where it’s always been more of a focus on schedules, I believe that if we can’t maintain quality, it would be better to not release anything at all.”
Who knew? Bad games don't sell.

Bit of a revival post, but I thought a link to SEGA Europe's E3 2016 stream (apparently we may FINALLY get to see the mystery 25th Anniversary game) was apropos here.

Apparently, they just said there will be a big Sonic announcment at the July 22nd Sonic party (which matches up with what SoA has been saying):
http://www.tssznews.com/2016/06/15/sega ... july-22nd/

I'm surprised they are waiting so late to announce it. The last a Sonic game was announced so late, we got Sonic Genesis (and that was announced on June 23rd, the date of Sonic's anniversary).
I wonder if the game is actually coming out this year.
