If it plays anything like the 2D segments in Unleashed, I'm not going to touch it.

Zelda never turned furry. That was Link's turf.

I didn't realize this was probably a Werehog reference, I interpreted it as Sonic turning into a motorcycle that drives itself, an idea that I actually like more the more I think about it.

I don't know, didn't Michael Jackson do that in Moonwalker?

Wait, maybe that was a car.

But there was already a Devastator/Megazord approach in Unleashed's final battle...

More like the Revolutionary Girl Utena movie, or that 80s cartoon (Turbo Teen?) about the boy who turns into a car when he gets wet.

And a spaceship. And a robot.

My first thought was Sonic Fantasy XIII.

No, he turns into a car when he gets hot, and becomes human again when he gets cold

How about a plot where the guy turns into a car when he gets hard?

And his traumatizing tale of how he ran over his wife, while in bed?

I remember overhearing someone describe Ranma 1/2 when I was in, like, middle school. It was a rather bewildering moment in my life.

Talk about "hot rods"... lol

Anyways, I'd love a high-def 2D Sonic game to be something like this:

Only made by Production I.G and featuring Sonic CD's animated clip designs.

The Sonic CD intro and ending are still pretty much the best animated work Sonic's featured in.The OVA had some great stuff, too, though.
That was probably the most appealing Sonic has ever looked for me, too. I'd love if they made a game that had him looking like that.

I didn't know Production I.G. made games.

I really don't like those HD "remake" things by Orioto, though. They're overworked and ugly.

Actually I.G was only charged with providing Good Feel with the graphics data fow Wario Land Shake, IIRC. In other words, Sonic Team should outsource the game's graphics production to I.G and develop the game's code themselves.

And of course the stylization would greatly differ from that of Orioto's, I only used his work as an approximate example of how it could look, although I think it would be better to have a smaller Sonic sprite than what he looks in that pic in order to make the game speedier but not unfair.

I give it extra credit for putting his arms in the classic, less-obnoxious pose. Arms fully extended backwards looks fucking stupid*. I mean, Knuckles' running animation in SA2 seemed far more viscerally natural when compared to it.

*Of course it looked far more stupid when the Mario Bros. did it in NSMB. Hopefully the Wii version nixes this.

I'm all behind a 2D Sonic game with hand-drawn or cel-shaded frames. Weren't Sonic Rush's models technically cel-shaded? They were pretty good.

They were, but you can never beat hand-drawn sprites.

Say what you will about the Advance series and Sonic Battle, but damn did the characters look good. I'm still impressed by how detailed and pleasing some of the animation in those games is.
