What?

The Magnetic Shield (SA1 and onward) is different than the Electric Shield (S3&K). They look different, and the latter disappears in water, and enables a double jump.

How does a shield of sparkling shite look different?

They both attract rings.

Yeah, they look identical to me. They're both electrical balls that rotate around Sonic and attract rings.

Maybe that blue hedgehog in the new games is not even Sonic, but some sort of different hedgehog. This is why he does not release bubbles under water anymore.

Certainly not DIMPS being fucktards and screwing up stuff. Nope.

The concept is exactly the same, but K2J is right in the fact that they have different monikers. The Electric barrier was in Sonic 3 only, and the Magnetic barrier is the new adaptation in Sonic Adventure and every game since, which doesn't fizzle out in water. The gold one in Sonic R is the odd one out, since it doesn't give Sonic a double jump (he already has one) but DOES fizzle out in water.

If there were water in Shadow, we'd have a whole new debate as to whether the Flame barrier in that game has anything to do with its Sonic 3 and Sonic 3D cousins.

Wait, in which game does this (not) happen? I don't remember bubbles vanishing, though admittedly I've never stopped around to chill out in Rush Adventure.

There isn't, this is just the next car down on his latest aborted train of thought.

If there's one thing I'll say for Shadow, it's that the elemental shields were usually hidden in very out-of-the-way places, and sort of felt like a reward for exploring the levels. I must've had that game for four months before discovering the ring/Magnetic Shield room in Cryptic Castle.
Zeta wrote:Yeah, they look identical to me. They're both electrical balls that rotate around Sonic and attract rings.
Actually, I always thought the Magnetic Shield looked more plasma-y (similar to those plasma globes you can touch), and the Electric Shield looked more like electricity proper.

Sonic Advance 3. The Rush games might, I am not sure. I think they do.

What about the "Everything after SA2Battle just sucks" crew?

I just got back from Sakuracon, tired and suffering from an achy cold and not all there in the mind. I checked my mail and found a package which I just assumed was some comic or something I'd ordered off amazon marketplace, because the return address was totally vague. I pulled it out and there's Sonic & the Black Knight, and my first response is "OH SHIT WHY DID I BUY THIS?"

But it turns out it was that free one they were going to send out. I haven't played it yet.

Maybe you could put it up on eBay and get $50 for free from some sap. Then put it towards a game actually worth playing. Like, I dunno, Braid or Klonoa.

I was wondering when they were going to send you winners your free copies. I'm eager to hear your impressions--assuming you are keeping it.

I got mine and am debating what I should do with it. I'll probably leave it on the shelf, never to be opened, as a piece of memorabilia. Almost makes me wish they gave out shitty plastic trophys or something instead.

Braid is like a platformer you would find on Newgrounds.

...what? I don't make the connection between Braid and Newgrounds at all....

Plays like an awkward, shitty little flash game.

Ignore Kogen. The game's quite clever in many regards, the music and art design is phenomenal, and the PC version I linked even has its own level editor. It's many echelons above shitty Flash games.

Hell, it's easier to argue the $15 price point considering the level editor this time around - and knowing Valve, it'll go on sale eventually, too.

If I'd won a contest like that, I'd probably keep the game just so I can say, "Hey I won this art contest and my work appears in this game." And show it off.

Back in November, some fella at Retro was making the following big claim:
Shalpp wrote:Since I am too lazy to browse through the pages one by one to find this, I'll bring it up.
The music.

Downright horrible, crappy remixes, and the uncredited Sonic midis that are scattered throughout various websites.
Example:
Metropolis
Panic Puppet Act 1 uncredited midi
Why such a crappy soundset?
The first battle theme is some crazy epic grunge remix of Tidal Tempest Past.
The boss theme is Panic Puppet Act 1 (again)
Blue Ridge Zone is a remixed Diamond Dust Act 1
And before I go any further, I don't wanna hear,"Richard Jacques helped make the music for the game that's why there are so many S3DB remixes in there!"
All these remixes are made by Steve Sim.
Continuing..
The N'rrgal Colony is one of the US future remixes of Quartz Quadrant, again a take on one of the uncredited ones.
The Kron Colony is ESPIOKaos's midi of Volcano Valley Act 1
The Metropolis Ground Zero is ESPIOKaos's midi of Tidal Tempest Past

And that's about it.
It seems that Steve Sim jacked a bunch of uncredited (and 2 of ESPIOKaos's) midis, arranged them, and popped them on the game.
It may be just me, but I'm pretty sure thats called being really damn lazy.
Those links don't work, here are ones that do:

Panic Puppet Act 1 uncredited midi (scroll down to 3D Blast and play the first uncredited Panic Puppet entry)
Sonic Chronicles Metropolis

Now, through the scratchiness it sounded kinda similar but I had a hard time telling for sure, so I had a friend, who presumably fails a lot less at music than I do, take a listen:
Thunder says:
definitely the same
Thunder says:
do you hear those out of place notes? compare to the reverse cymbal effect in the midi
Thunder says:
only a bad conversion would cause that, nobody puts those in intentionally
Thunder says:
I get it all the time when converting my midis to some other format before I change the instruments
Your take?
