Re: Sonic and the Quest for Phallic Compensation
Does Knuckles have knife fists? I hope he has knife fists.
Alternatively, he could have katar.
Upon closer examination, I guess it's an axe, which, while making sense, is way less cool.

I believe it's a fist metal crackle.
Re: Sonic and the Quest for Phallic Compensation
I think it looks kinda cool... in a weird way.

Who's exactly the victim here? I'm assuming the userbase of the site whose administration is having an emo bitchfest meltdown.

Nintendo Power preview summary
- Nunchuk to move Sonic, A to Jump and flick of the Wiimote to attack, and Z to block
- Knuckles, Shadow and Blaze are bosses in the game, they are part of a round table, once you beat them they become your friend. Looks like they are playable as well, though this is optional.
- Each environment has about 6 to 9 missions.
- Looks like there is 3 fighting styles to choose from. Cavalier style = speed. Paladin style = Strength or Knight Style = a balance of both.
- You can get new skills, like in Secret rings.
- There also seems to be a multiplayer mode (Battle and Survivor Mode)
- "There are Solo Missions designed specifically for ranked online challenges"

Hmmm. No Tails then, I guess. Looks like I've been holding on to my Wii all this time for nothing.
Wait... That didn't come out right.

Playable Blaze - SOLD. Actually, this is looking a lot better than Unleashed.- Knuckles, Shadow and Blaze are bosses in the game, they are part of a round table, once you beat them they become your friend. Looks like they are playable as well, though this is optional.

I'll rent it, but I'm not holding my breath. It looks passable enough, but who can really tell these days?

Re: Sonic and the Quest for Phallic Compensation
This game looks like shit.
Re: Sonic and the Quest for Phallic Compensation
Eh...skipping trying this since Unleashed didn't really revitalise my love for Sonic enough to try another title in the franchise. This probably won't be my cup of tea anyway.
Why are you holding on to it for a Sonic game? You should be holding it for Madworld and Sin & Punishment 2.MiraiTails wrote:Hmmm. No Tails then, I guess. Looks like I've been holding on to my Wii all this time for nothing.

I forgot about Madword. Never played Sin & Punishment.Ngangbius wrote:Eh...skipping trying this since Unleashed didn't really revitalise my love for Sonic enough to try another title in the franchise. This probably won't be my cup of tea anyway.

Also, shameful as it is, exclusive Sonic games are by and large my main reason for buying new consoles. Worked out well for 360, not so much for Wii.
Re: Sonic and the Quest for Phallic Compensation
I really need to see some different levels before I can further an opinion on this one. Right now it's just Sonic and a sword, and quite frankly, that neither makes me cower in fear nor jump for joy. Considering how amazing Unleashed looked (even the Wii version), there's really no excuse for this game looking blander than Secret Rings at this point. If they start unveiling some levels that show they're having some fun with the environments (I think Pirate Storm is about when Secret Rings really started to win me over), I'll be back on board, but I kind of feel like they don't give a rat's ass about this game.
Re: Sonic and the Quest for Phallic Compensation
From a technical standpoint, this looks better than Unleashed Wii. However, the environments feels like that should belong in a Zelda game rather than a Sonic one.
Re: Sonic and the Quest for Phallic Compensation
I just can't get excited about this one. Maybe it's because I still have my eyes on the 360 version of Unleashed and don't have a 360 yet.

Well, Sonic is not quite himself anymore.Ngangbius wrote:From a technical standpoint, this looks better than Unleashed Wii. However, the environments feels like that should belong in a Zelda game rather than a Sonic one.

Well, gaming mascots generally don't have much longevity unless they're constantly thrust into the public eye in as many series as they could possibly be in.Dasher wrote:Well, Sonic is not quite himself anymore.Ngangbius wrote:From a technical standpoint, this looks better than Unleashed Wii. I foresee Sonic Curling.
Re: Sonic and the Quest for Phallic Compensation
I guess that's why we've got Mario sports and Mario party.

Part of me was joking, but then another part of me desperately would like to play a curling videogame with everyone's favorite blue mascot...Locit wrote:Man I wish!Baba O'Riley wrote:I foresee Sonic Curling.

I have fond memories of the Digimon Curling minigame in the first Digimon video game.

Quote from: Nintendo Power
The Feb. 2009 Nintendo Power has a small bit about the Black Knight in it. A couple interesting facts from it:
It uses woodcut-esque cut-scenes aside from the opening movie (like Sonic and the Secret Rings did with storybook scenes).
Shadow is Sir Lancelot, Knuckles is Sir Gawain, and Amy Rose is the Lady of the Lake.
Shadow and Knuckles are playable in the multiplayer battles after you’ve defeated them in the one-on-one duels in single player mode.
The multiplayer mode lets you either go sword-to-sword against up to three others in a free-for-all or you team up together to defeat a giant baddie as quickly as possible.
This time around I’ve scanned the entire article instead of just the images for you guys. Aren’t I nice? I suggest you still go out and buy the Feb 2009 issue of Nintendo Power to see the article for yourselves. It also has an interesting reader question. The reader mentions that Sonic X-Treme (the cancelled Sega Saturn game) kind of has a Super Mario Galaxy feeling to it. Chris Slate responds saying that he wrote a cover story on Sonic X-Treme for Game Players back in the day and does see a small resemblence now that he looks back. I wonder if Chris has any other inside info about the game from the press side of things…
Re: Sonic and the Quest for Phallic Compensation
I used to be interested in the game until this and the last preview. The helmets they put on Knuckles and Shadow might be the lamest looking things they have done yet.
And Blaze is at a round table of knights? lolwomanknight
