I can see Sonic the Virtual Pet and Sonic the Date Sim happening a few years into the future.

Not a single proper, good home console Sonic game starring Sonic the Hedgehog since 2001.

I can picture Rouge in SoulCalibur V, though.

Sonic Date Sim already exists. It's called Furry Porn.

1) The name of this thread wins.
2) <sigh> Sonic + sword = what? Swordplay and running fast / platforming aren't things I would have put togetther on my own, methinks.... @_@

The most deplorable thing in all of this is the fact that it reaffirms the possiblity that Sonikku the Battosai was an unholy prophet- damn near everything he mentioned in his outline on the perfect Sonic game has come to pass. Anyone mind dredging up that topic so we can compare and contrast to see what further horrors await us?
Actually, there's yet to be a Sonic the Hedgehog plot featuring drug dealers. SO FAR.

Don't wine that Sonic has a sword, wine that Sega is launching Sonic games out of its preverbal vagina faster then they can complete them. Give the hedgehog a Sword provided the game is well polished and fun. Playability is what I want.

My guess so far is that this is going to play as some sort Devil May Cry/Ninja Gaiden lite, though I could just as easily see it being on rails similar to Secret Rings. And honestly this is kind of a weird direction to take the series, but at least it doesn't look all dark and wannabe BADASS like Shadow. It'll probably be some light-hearted medieval fare.

Sonic and the Renfest! All we need is a pop punk version of Greensleeves.

This is suprising, I wasnt expecting a new Sonic game to be announced with both Unleashed and Chronicles coming out in the next few months.

I dont think Sonic carrying a sword is that big of a deal. It's not like he's got a pistol, and we dont really know ANYTHING about the game right now, so I think its too soon to get negative.

It does have me concerned about the quality of Unleashed though. 2K6 a complete mess becuase Sonic Team was working on two games at once. Something they are apparently doing now with Unleashed and Sonic Knight.

I imagine/fear the gameplay to flow like this:

*hold forward through pre-scripted loops*
*run into locked room*
DEFEAT ALL ENEMIES
*hack slash hack slash waggle waggle*
*door opens*
*hold forward and jump a bit over bottomless pits*
*run into locked room*...

Rinse and repeat.

I'm a little surprised they're revealing yet another new Sonic game already but the concept really doesn't surprise me. This franchise has become ridiculously overreliant on using shitty gimmicks to sell new games.

There was a good home console Sonic game released in 2001?

I thought about it, and if this turned out to be some kind of Dynasty Warriorsesque action game that has Sonic and Knuckles facing off against hundreds of classic robots in well-executed maps resembling past zones, I'd enjoy this more than any Sonic game I've played in the last ten or so years.

Dare to dream.

How come this information came first on Nintendo Power? Aren't these things supposed to be announced in Japan first? Or E3?

I suppose, if 3D Sonic games had a better track record, one would be less inclined to describe SA2 as good.

I always thought Sonic games were always leaked before being announced.

I think SEGA of Japan and SEGA of America are again bitter enemies.
