Re: Sonic Unleashed?
That's the best reason you could come up with?
Re: Sonic Unleashed?
Yes, because I never watched any of their films.
Re: Sonic Unleashed?
I say the person looking at goddamn robot porn is the one who lacks comprehension.Kogen wrote: Go look at some WALL-E porn, then you will understand.
Wouldn't it be ironic if this Kogen was somehow related to the Kogen on the main forum calling us all out on being bitchy and too negative?
Re: Sonic Unleashed?
Why are people focusing on my fetish for robotics? I was saying the style never fit Sonic Unleashed.
Re: Sonic Unleashed?
Referring more to the premise of asshole humans under an asshole world government who literally get away with murder. A planet of harmless, cheerful humans is much less horrible in comparison.Kogen wrote:You mean legos with textures?CM August wrote:Although I am in agreement, it's still a hell of a lot better than the humans' depiction in games like SA2 and Shadow.
Re: Sonic Unleashed?
Man, you're hurting me. You hate them and you haven't seen a single one of their films?Kogen wrote:Yes, because I never watched any of their films.
Sonic Unleashed has probably one of the most successful art directions I've seen in a video game, even if its not what you wanted.

Re: Sonic Unleashed?
BTW, getting back to the music discussion, I cannot stop listening to "Arid Sands - Day" for some reason. "Skyscraper Scamper - Day" is pretty good, too; very reminiscent of Sonic Adventure [1] (probably because Fumie Kumatani composed it). If only the game was half the game Sonic Adventure was...
Re: Sonic Unleashed?
I personally thought "Ergo" was alright. He was a character that actually helped made the game more light hearted like the old games instead of that stupid unneeded Dark Gaia crap at the end. That and the humor was he brought was better then anything Chip did and the fact he always managed to be a smart ass whenever he pointed out a flaw Eggman didn't notice. And for some reason always makes me think of that ending of Sonic 1 when Eggman stomps on the End letters...That little robot he had was just stupid, but at least the bigger ones were better.

Re: Sonic Unleashed?
I know I'm harping on Kogen here, but...
On another note, I really liked the music from Spagonia daytime, Adabat daytime, and Eggmanland all dah time. The main theme wasn't any "Open Your Heart", but it was also a decent little ditty.
Man oh man. Kogen, you owe it to yourself to at least see WALL-E. I've never seen Ratatouille myself, but from almost everyone on the forum says, it's also a must see.Kogen wrote:

Re: Sonic Unleashed?
Going back to the Pixar-ish human discussion for a bit, I don't think they are bad. I mean I do agree that their design is way better than the junk that was used in SA2, Shadow, and Sonic 2K6. However, it sort of not perfect in terms of fitting with Sonic and the crew. It seems that it is some sort of small clash between the designs, that Sonic and co.(which includes Eggman) still feels inspired by old-school Disney while most of the humans in this game is inspired by current Disney. It's not a drastic case of mascot costumes vs. Final Fantasy rejects like Sonic 2K6, but it still seems something is off.
I always thought the Sonic would fit best in a world that was inspired by Ub Iwerks or Osamu Tezuka than Pixar.

Re: Sonic Unleashed?
It's almost like a complete stylistic and plot-wise reboot of the series. They've comletely disregarded the the angsty, navel-gazing back stories that IIzuka and the like have woven; for better or for worse.

I actually kind of agree with Kogen here, even if he's clearly just being a dick for the sake of it. Pixar may make good films (up to The Inredibles anyway; Cars, Ratatouille, and Wall-E all disappointed me) but their character designs really aren't that great, people, same as Disney's. The humans in Unleashed are certainly better than what's come before but "better" in this case merely means "less bad".
I NEVER liked Sonic being in a world of humans anyway, just on principle.

You're not human.Crowbar wrote:Ratatouille, and Wall-E all disappointed me
Re: Sonic Unleashed?
What a coincidink. I just watched WALL-E on DVD the other day. Now I'm kicking myself for having missed it in the theater, as I have with Pixar's two other best films (The Incredibles and Ratatouille). ;_;
Re: Sonic Unleashed?
I guess I need to restate what I was saying before: I do not hate the Pixarish design, I just do not think it fits Sonic. And no, I am not going to ever watch the movies unless someone else gets me to.hedgepig wrote:It's almost like a complete stylistic and plot-wise reboot of the series. Does not anyone else think it is weird that the only furry type things are Sonic, Tails, Amy, and Chip? Like why are there just four of them like this in the world? It does not really make any sense at all, better to just have talking flickies, along with the other animals they had before (Squirrel, pig, etc). Some people are fine, but they over did it. Also I am not suggesting they make a world of Archie furries or Marine the Raccoons, I know that would be terrible; just something more similar to Jam.
And about the music, while I thought it was generally good, most of it was boring. It really does not compare to prior Sonic games (none of the current gen ones have great music anymore). Sonic 06 was the same way, Rush series has retarded music, and Chronicles music sounded like broken midis; I do not think it is mentally healthy to play the rest.

So Kogen hates Pixar and Hideki Naganuma.
Surely I can't be the only one to see a problem here.

Re: Sonic Unleashed?
I realize that I'm going into wanton and dangerous speculation, but perhaps we don't see more walking talking animals like Sonic and the gang because they're concentrated in small areas. Like how the Knuckles Tribe was centered mostly around the Mystic Ruins, or how the Flickies all congregate on Flickies' Island (when they're not dimension-hopping or what have you). It also seems like non-humans used to be the dominant lifeform on the planet. There's separate tales of civilizations on Westside Island (from Sonic 2) and the Mystic Ruins who grew strong toyed with the powers of the Chaos Emeralds, but pissed off the gods and were appropriately punished. Come to think of it, maybe the success of humans in Sonic's world is precisely because they haven't gone emerald-power mad, save for Eggman.Kogen wrote:

And, it does seem odd for Sonic in Unleashed to interact with regular ol' animals, such as the zebras in Mazuri or the penguins in Holoska. Makes you wonder why there's anthromorphic and non-anthromorphic on the same planet.
Lastly, I always thought that the post-Adventure style was more heavily anime-based, so it is a bit odd that the humans in Unleashed are more along the lines of Disney / Pixar. The two style don't necessarily clash... But rather, contrast each other in a very apparent and interesting way. Sadly, I've never heard of these Osamu Tezuka and Ub Iwerks guys. I'll have to check them out sometime...

Re: Sonic Unleashed?
Ub Iwerks more or less designed Mickey Mouse (similar to Ohshima with Sonic), so you at least heard of him.
Re: Sonic Unleashed?
I am glad you realised what you were doing before you did it.
Sonic is a cartoon world, it can be whatever they want. All the games and related stuff have different types of worlds. I highly doubt there is really any type of deep story related to anything, only awkward fans get into that stuff. They just wanted to do it like a Pixar movie, is all. Same reason they wanted to change all their ages in 1998; not because some weird time rift occured.

Re: Sonic Unleashed?
You agree with hating a studio while not having actually seen a single one of their films? That's the kind of attitude you're supporting here. Also, dont talk about character design as if you know something about it. The way you disregard all the work Pixar has put into their characters makes me sick.Crowbar wrote: I actually kind of agree with Kogen here, even if he's clearly just being a dick for the sake of it.
