Well, guys, this is it! Just finished off everything in Adabat. Next stop, Eggmanland!

Still having a mostly good time! I was lucky enough to never really hit the dreaded not-enough-emblems roadblock. I always had enough right up to Adabat Day, where I arrived only three short. I think I have you guys to thank for this... you made having a shortage of emblems sound so agonizing that I was probably a bit more diligent picking them up along the way than I would have been otherwise.

I've really enjoyed all the Sonic stages, both the regular ones and the high-difficulty extra stages. The werehog levels have been decent, too, although they do have some frustrating sections thanks to the overly finicky jumping and grabbing mechanics. But, man... whoever designed the two high-difficulty extra werehog stages should be shot. That was some SERIOUSLY agonizing bullshit, Sonic Team. Next time, carry your OWN fucking key stones back and forth over that tiny fucking bar! God, I just wanted to set the game on fire during that section.

GRRRRRRRRRR! I'm currently stuck on Adabat Day because I need 24 emblems to play it!! Now I have to play those damn werehog levels again just to get them! :(

Have you gotten all the emblems in the hubs? Those are by far the easiest ones. If you go to any of the town hubs at night, there are between two and four sun emblems in each one. (And then there's more in the level select hubs as well.)

Between those and the ones you can find in the extra acts of each world, you may be able to get enough without actually having to replay any stages you've already done.

So I wonder if the original plan for the game was to have day/night speed stages for normal Sonic before the werehog was concocted. Mazuri has a sunset/sunrise act and this Mazuri night section doesn't appear in the final game;it's clearly Sonic's level at night:

Having an ordinary time passage system complete with stages and areas only accessible at certain times of day would've been OK by me.

All this talk of the game makes me wonder how much they could've improved on the Chao Garden had they included it in this game. Day and Night Chao? An extra country/hub centered around the Chao Garden? Think about it...

Oh god, the chao garden. It was fine as an optional gimmick and minigame, but making it mandatory to master for anyone with the gall to want to play 3D Green Hill in Sonic Adventure 2 was cruel. So many hours wasted. After the final emblem, I have never ever loaded up the chao garden again, and can't imagine why I ever would.

Well..it did add some replay value to the game, specially if you wanted an SSSSS Chaos Chao.

That Neutral Chaos and Dark Chaos were the shit! (Chaos Chao never die) I had a Sonic,Shadow,Tails and Nights chao, as well as others. but I accidentally erased my Dark Chaos chao by sending him to a race in SADX then turning off the game because i didn't want him to have a medal encrusted in his chest.

But yeah..no more Chaos, unless they make em easier to breed and junk, but no more yea. I want them to add extras tho.

So...Unleashed didn't have extras like SA1 or SA2? just artwork and movies eh?

Thanks for that. I honestly didn't realise the hubs had different emblems in them at night. :-/

No more chao gardens. Please.

Unless they're completely optional like in Sonic Advance.

Didn't realize so many people hated the Chao Garden if only because they made it mandatory. I really don't care if it's not mandatory, I just want to raise some damn Chao again.

One of the things I liked about Chao was that the Robot's animals actually had some use! but I miss the original animals.

I don't want to see miniature lions or pink rabbits, that's bullshit.

Im talking about Chao fused with Flicky and Pocky kinda deal, and Eggman has gotten too soft, put darn animals inside robots darn it! I mean the story of Gamma was awesome!

Should we make a thread to dump all the porn of that ghost girl from Night of the Werehog?

If you build it, they will come.

Not a joke, but an incredible simulation!

Yahtzee tears into Unleashed's ass.

It's pretty clear he's reviewing the 360 version, despite the pictures of the Wii version. Also, he's pretty much right about everything, so...

That has to be the most venomous Yahtzee review I've viewed. Even his Too Human review wasn't filled with that much vitriol. It also mean that this will be the only Sonic game he'll ever review.

And he is right on the money with most of his points.

Never realised how skewed games "journalism" can be. Sonic Unleashed is a high quality game and deserves none of the bashing that previous installments warrant.

Oh hell with that loudmouth, I want to see Tim Rogérs take a crack at it:
Sonic World Adventure (Wii)

It's Sonic: Unleashed, with a less "EXTREME!" (in other words, very generic) title. Will Japanese gamers fall in love with Sonic the Werehog? Short answer: probably not! Like NiGHTS for Wii, I expect this one to plummet to 1,200 yen within two months, at which point I will snatch it up with evil claws.

After the Sonic Riders ZG reviews came in, in which many indicated that there wasn't a tutorial (there is), or that you have to hold forward to keep moving (you don't), I realized how stupid said reviews are. Zero Gravity had a really odd story, but it's gameplay was rather tight, if a bit hard.

Unleashed isn't perfect, but yeah, it's definitely better.

Yahtzee's shtick is picking up flaws in a game and extrapolating upon them in a humorous manner. You can't really say that the flaws he talked about don't exist, even if the way in which he described them was a bit overblown.

The only disagreeable part was "Sonic needs to die", but then really, you can hardly blame anyone for getting sick of sub-par Sonic games.

Also, Shadow Hog: Why is it obvious he's talking about the 360 version and not the Wii version? I've only played the 360 version so I don't know what's tipping you off, but it seems rather unlikely to me that he wouldn't bother getting the right box art.

Three things.

One: he mentions hubs. The Wii/PS2 versions don't really have them - they have screens similar to SA2's Mission Select screen, and you talk to characters that way.
Two: he mentions switching the dialogue to Japanese (did the same). The Wii/PS2 version can't do that - they only have English.
Three: he mentions mini-game finishing moves in the Werehog stages. IIRC, the Wii version doesn't have those...?

That'd be my reasoning.

Blast, SH replied just as I was about to post. Oh well...

None of the crap he's ranting out exists in the Wii/PS2 version. You can't switch the VAs to the JP language, enemies don't regain their health after missing a QTE attack, hubs are absent, and you don't search for medals in hubs and other levels, to gain access to the next required level in the Wii/PS2 versions. IIRC, medals in the SD versions were earned based your performance from completing a level and they were used to open access to the secret levels. Besides I remember Yahtzee saying he was going to avoid Wii ports of multi-platform games after his Force Unleashed review and his avatar was holding a regular controller as opposed to a Wiimote and nunchuck for his usual Wii-related reviews.

I think he used the Wii boxart because, he assumed that all versions were the same or that he could not find the X360 box art in time for the production of this episode, or it just could be a simple mistake.
