Re: "Sonic Chronicles" trademarked by Sega
Oh look! Sega finally updated their Sonic RPG webpage after being three days late!
http://sonic.sega.jp/SonicChronicles/
The Japanese name is Sonic Chronicles: Invaders from the Dark Dimension which actually makes more since than the title we got. It is also being released on August. I wonder what did they add add/or modify for this version other than the language?

Wait. So that's just the Japanese version of Chronicles right?
Why the fuck have they been spared it for so long?

You didn't even read Ngangbius's post, did you?
Re: "Sonic Chronicles" trademarked by Sega
Sonic 2K6 should've had the "Rush" title.Ngangbius wrote:They probably won't drop the "Rush"-name until the next true DS successor, and even then it's probably more likely they will still play like the Rush games after all.
Get it? Because it was rushed onto shelves!
Ha. Ha. Ha. I'm so witty.
Re: "Sonic Chronicles" trademarked by Sega
Except it was developed for several years and other fantastic games were made during the same time frame.
Re: "Sonic Chronicles" trademarked by Sega
Anyone else notice the 3D Voxai Colony at the start of the video? Sometimes I wonder how much stuff they actually did that wasn't used on the game proper. I remember that awesome screen of Sonic dashing around the BioWare logo, what the hell happened to that shit? Did the Flash custscenes take up too much room?Ngangbius wrote:http://sonic.sega.jp/SonicChronicles/

Hell, it sure doesn't show it. And your second claim is dubious at best, if we're talking about the Sonic franchise here.Kogen wrote:Except it was developed for several years and other fantastic games were made during the same time frame.

What about it makes it so "International"?
Re: "Sonic Chronicles" trademarked by Sega
English voice acting added.
Re: "Sonic Chronicles" trademarked by Sega
Back in November, some fella at Retro was making the following big claim:
Panic Puppet Act 1 uncredited midi (scroll down to 3D Blast and play the first uncredited Panic Puppet entry)
Sonic Chronicles Metropolis
Now, through the scratchiness it sounded kinda similar but I had a hard time telling for sure, so I had a friend, who presumably fails a lot less at music than I do, take a listen:
Those links don't work, here are ones that do:Shalpp wrote:Since I am too lazy to browse through the pages one by one to find this, I'll bring it up.
The music.
Downright horrible, crappy remixes, and the uncredited Sonic midis that are scattered throughout various websites.
Example:
Metropolis
Panic Puppet Act 1 uncredited midi
Why such a crappy soundset?
The first battle theme is some crazy epic grunge remix of Tidal Tempest Past.
The boss theme is Panic Puppet Act 1 (again)
Blue Ridge Zone is a remixed Diamond Dust Act 1
And before I go any further, I don't wanna hear,"Richard Jacques helped make the music for the game that's why there are so many S3DB remixes in there!"
All these remixes are made by Steve Sim.
Continuing..
The N'rrgal Colony is one of the US future remixes of Quartz Quadrant, again a take on one of the uncredited ones.
The Kron Colony is ESPIOKaos's midi of Volcano Valley Act 1
The Metropolis Ground Zero is ESPIOKaos's midi of Tidal Tempest Past
And that's about it.
It seems that Steve Sim jacked a bunch of uncredited (and 2 of ESPIOKaos's) midis, arranged them, and popped them on the game.
It may be just me, but I'm pretty sure thats called being really damn lazy.

Your take?Thunder says:
definitely the same
Thunder says:
do you hear those out of place notes? compare to the reverse cymbal effect in the midi
Thunder says:
only a bad conversion would cause that, nobody puts those in intentionally
Thunder says:
I get it all the time when converting my midis to some other format before I change the instruments

Okay, for real this time. My take: ...why did they have to ditch the music they had again? And if they're going to pull MIDIs, why not pull, y'know, the good ones? I mean, EspioKaos is a good choice, but hell, SwordBolt/Zenkusa, Teck, KingMeteor... their MIDIs tend to be exceedingly good quality for the format.
Maybe they just wanted the anonymity, I dunno.

Re: "Sonic Chronicles" trademarked by Sega
Wow, yeah. The Panic Puppet and Quartz Quadrant midis are a perfect match. I can't vouch for EspioKaos's midis, since he took his site down earlier this year and they aren't on VGmusic.FlashTHD wrote:Your take?
I mean, wow. Yeah, I knew they'd done it, but now it's like we have photographic evidence of the act taking place. What a huge fucking load.
Re: "Sonic Chronicles" trademarked by Sega
But they are all in a zip archive he made available before takedown, which you can grab here.Neo wrote:I can't vouch for EspioKaos's midis, since he took his site down earlier this year and they aren't on VGmusic.
If a mod would be so kind as to clean/move the leftovers from the Black Knight thread...?

Oh, okay. Well I didn't know about that.FlashTHD wrote:But they are all in a zip archive he made available before takedown, which you can grab here.
Volcano Valley is a also a perfect match, but Tidal Tempest was actually (gulp) changed! The track in the game starts about 16 seconds in, and to my recollection, features a new rhythm track. Incidentally it's one of my favourite tracks in the game.

Re: "Sonic Chronicles" trademarked by Sega
Bioware, one of the most respected names in western RPGs, inexplicably decided to create a Sonic RPG for the Nintendo DS with data ripped from Wikipedia, art ripped from Sonic X, midis ripped from VGMusic.com, a plot focused primarily on a world that was probably originally written for another IP (those Twilight races are unusually well fleshed out), and a JRPG battle system with mislabeled stats.FlashTHD wrote:Your take?
I hear it had really good dialogue, though.
Re: "Sonic Chronicles" trademarked by Sega
When it had character-developing dialogue.
Honestly, the game could've been OK if it weren't for how poor its production values were.

Time is not on the side of game developers. Just try to convince anyone you need more time for a PORTABLE game, they will just laught at you.
Re: "Sonic Chronicles" trademarked by Sega
If you think about it Sept, 11, 2001 killed SEGA and Sonic somehow, all we are seeing now are the severed limbs on the floor and shadows of what used to be but does not compare.

It's been obvious for a good while that both Arcade and Dasher have a tenuous grasp of reality. Just ignore it.
