Samba de Amgio coming to Wii

Post by Popcorn »

According to this 1up news report, Samba de Amigo is coming to Wii after all. And Gearbox-- the code-monkeys-for-hire behind Half-Life: Opposing Force and the Halo PC port-- are porting it, no less. Well, fancy that.

I hope they give Samba a voice.
I also hope the guy who did Meta Knight from Kirby: Right Back at Ya! does it. Even though it's the wrong accent.

I hope they find a way to make the inevitable-yet-necessary add-ons to the Wiimote for cheap.

I figured this would amuse everyone.

orite, I found this too:
SEGA GETS SHAKIN' WITH SAMBA DE AMIGO

LONDON & SAN FRANCISCO (October 25 2007) - SEGA of America, Inc. and SEGA Europe Ltd. are excited to announce that they are bringing back Samba De Amigo, the Dreamcast classic that helped to create the now-popular rhythm music genre. Created exclusively for the Wii home video game system, this vibrant and addictive new game lets players shake to the beats of a samba-infused soundtrack comprised of popular new songs as well as fan-favorites from the original game.

Playing as the grinning, sombrero-topped monkey, Amigo, players shake the Wii Remote and Nunchuk like maracas, in time with the visual beats of the music on-screen. The perfect party game, Samba De Amigo is packed with lively stages and a host of colorful characters. More details about this exciting new title including a full song listing as well as new special features will be revealed over the next few months.

"The Wii's controllers enable players to enjoy Samba De Amigo's unique gameplay without having to purchase an expensive peripheral," said Rick Naylor, Director of Marketing at SEGA. "Between the music, the quirky art style, and the maraca-shaking players, Samba De Amigo is as much fun to watch as it is to play."

Developed by acclaimed developer, Gearbox Software, Samba De Amigo will be exclusively available for the Wii in spring 2008. For more information, please visit http://www.sega.com.

Man, first Sonic, now Amigo... SEGA promotes the wiimote more than Nintendo itself with every new piece of CG art.

So, Gearbox... the Brothers in Arms guys, right? Are they cool or what?

At least there's gonna be new music. I had no idea if they were gonna make a sequel or a port, so that kinda made my day, sorta. More like my hour and a half. I mean, let's face it, it's no Sonic in Brawl, but it made me a lot happier considering I didn't really expect this one to even make it past the rumor mill.

That is some awkwardly rendered CG if I do say so myself.

The rendering has nothing to do with the awkwardness.

Indeed. Samba's head was always a block with a face textured on it, and it was always intentionally hilarious.

The toenails are weirding me out though. Can't tell if it's because they're themselves that weird, or if it's compounded by the fact he has no fingernails.

It looks renderedly awkward. Also, this is the first Samba CGI art ever, isn't it?
No wait, there was the PS2 SEGA Superstars one.

Oh, he's holding a Wiimote. That's incredibly clever.

He's wildly gazing at the wiimote, while completely ignoring his maraca. Not only clever, but sacrilegious.

I think he meant something that's physically disturbing looking. Even if you get raped by an attractive person, it's still rape.

But Bo, I have banged your mother, so I personally have endured worse.

PS - I shouldn't have said that. That was just plain uncalled for.

However, I'm still not deleting it.

So quit whining, you all. It isn't any more awkward than Manny Calavera.

That reminds me, the GUN commander was the stupidest thing ever. His "back story" turned out to be a lie (proven so by the rest of the game), and he did nothing but add another layer of bad writing to that game. He should have been the soldier who killed Maria, now that would have been interesting.

And that monkey looks as though it is the tails doll in disguise, in fact it looks as though at any moment the tails doll will burst from inside the it and shluuuuuurpy your soul.

Some new news coming out of the latest Nintendo Power magazine:

- Gearbox was very adamant to make a Samba de Amigo sequel, in fact they are the ones who pestered Sega to do it.
- Gearbox says forums users want a Samba de Amigo remake for the Wii more than anything else, so that is what they are doing
- The game will feature a mixture of songs from the original and the 2000 version
- Will contain “Hustle modeâ€￾ from the 2000 version
- They are doing something with Miis
- Gearbox wants Wifi multiplayer but aren’t sure if it will work yet
interview with Shun Nakamura, director of the original Samba de Amigo: wrote:

Shun: “Right after Samba, I did direction on Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg, the later, on Sonic the Hedgehog (360). Currently, I’m on the development team for Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Gamesâ€￾

Well I guess we can forget about Sega giving Iizuka the back of their hand for anything either.
