Dricas servers to close

Post by big_smile »

Sega Japan has announced that the online Dreamcast Network, nicked-name “Dricasâ€￾, is to close on September 28th.

Dricas was originally launched in 1998, shortly after the Japanese release of Dreamcast. The service hosted websites for most first party titles. Each site was in a TV resolution friendly format and could be usually accessed from within the game.

As the websites were directly produced by the development teams of the games, they often contained story information or expert play advice that wasn’t readily available elsewhere. Most Dricas sites also included downloadable content, such as system themes or extra levels.

Dricas websites were available for all three Dreamcast Sonic games and for most of the other Sonic Team titles.

It's interesting to note that people are still posting on the SA2 BBS.

Some friends of mine are working to archive those sites before they go down (particularly SA2's). If you or anyone wants to help speed things up before the deadline, talk to me. Hosting space is more than covered.

Most of SA2's content is already mirrored on the official SA2:B site:
http://www.sonicteam.com/sonic2b/

As the SA2B site isn't hosted on Dricas, it wont be deleted.

Cool. They left out the Last story hints, though...

Hey, if any of you can still connect with that browser, and are able to email VMU saves (explanation of that here if needed), it might be wise to grab those Chao downloads off the SA2 page and email them to me. Last I heard, the Moon Chao, unlike the others, never made it into the GC port, so that's a critical grab. You need at least 30 emblems on you to take all of them.

...unless that's been covered somewhere too >_>

According to Gamefaqs you can buy the moon chao in the tiny chao garden. They're still critical though. I just searched and nobody seems to have any of them.

Oh right...now I remember, but the odds of it popping up are astronomic and then some (0.1%).

Would anyone happen to know what the user agent for the SA2 browser is? I've tried using both PlanetWeb and the plain SA agent (Mozilla/3.0 (SonicKey)), but it doesn't seem to take.

I've got everything from the Shuffle and PSO sites saved (the PSO Dricas BBSes notwithstanding) and am working on SA2's. After wading through the SA1 and Samba sites for a bit, I think I want to leave backing up those to someone else if possible...SA1's is pretty broken without the DC browser and a trick to navigate with japanese skills like mine (which would be: nil); Samba's is xbox hueg.

I have the PSO BBSes as well if you would like those.

And yeah, I'm in the middle of patching up Samba's now--a lot of the problem seems to stem from the fact that the DC version is pretty broken while the PC version seems OK.

O_O The thousands of pages of crap and all? Christ. Uh, let's have it zipped then.

I've started to try uploading the Shuffle stuff to my hosting, but the people who arranged that site were cracker jacks. There's like 7 seperate folders for images (that i've found), not all in one place. Would it be possible to rip that hit counter off the index and keep the hit count?

Yeah, the BBSes are somewhere around 150MB; I can send them in multisplits.

I have my mirror of Shuffle at http://dricas.sonicretro.org/sonic-sh (SA2 is at http://dricas.sonicretro.org/sonic2) and I just took the lazy route by dumping the counter img rather than the actual script.

But more importantly how did you rip/post those two so fast? x_x
