Not that it matters, since the Sonic world seems to be equal parts "loosely based on the real world" and "we're making stuff up."

Although, the guys at Wikipedia swear that Sonic comes from the actual Christmas Island in the Indian Ocean. The one time I tried to tell them that most Sonic locations (especially during the Genesis era) were given generic names and weren't necessarily meant to be represent real-life locations, the local Wiki Zealot told me to fuck off, since I was wrong because he said so. I didn't care enough to challenge him again.

So yeah, Knuckles is Mexican, Brazilian, Peruvian, Jamaican, probably Guatemalan, and for the hell of it, Colombian. No, not in descent. In nationality. He was born in all of this places.

Christmas Island, huh? I must not have been looking hard enough as I didn't see any giant heads around. And I once tried to take "Shadow the Hedgehog" off the main game list and put it in "Sonic spinoffs"; bad move on my part!

That's EASTER Island, boy. Christmas Island is the one with the annual red crab infestation. I think you guys are smart enough to make the connection it has with Sonic.

So now we all know what that white stripe under his snout really means.

God, I can't. It's just too easy.

Journey of Dreams is on the front page of GameTrailers.com. Thought some of you guys might be interested.

No, apparently we're all having too much fun discussing STIs and Knuckles' nationality/drug abuse.

STIs and drug abuse aside, the game came out in Japan yesterday. Now it's just a matter of time before we hear about how horrible and unplayable the thing is and how much disgrace has befallen the series because of this travesty.

Or maybe we'll hear it's actually not half-bad. I dunno.

From all the info and videos we got, my bet is on "not half-bad", and it can be even a <i>fine</i> game. Anything and everything that was hardcore about the first game might have been torn apart, but the resulting game should be fine.
My only doubt is about the controls, pretty much everything else is OK.

That cutscene certainly lacks, uhh... dramatic punch?

"Hey. Le-et me-e go-o."

It's almost as if the actor was himself being captured and was bored with it!

Is my memory just shitty, or has Reala been hitting the bench press?

Well, he always had an enviable body... but the bat print is a complete turn-on.

OK, we've gone from blowcaine and crotch rot into the topic of banging Reala, but at least that's somewhat on topic, right?

The level design seems pretty good, though; at least there's ample Link opportunity in the depicted level, as opposed to the earlier beta vids.

That said, the voice-acting (and, honestly, the plot) makes me want to shoot something.

Also, it only sold 7,000 in its first day of sales? Ouch.

Especially for being (supposedly) in such high demand. I guess there's some truth to striking while the iron's hot.

Yeah, it's actually getting in good reviews and reception, but Sega's recent flops and the title's lack of advertising and recognizability makes it look like NIGHTs 2 will ironically be YET ANOTHER sleeper hit.

That was a lot better alright, having a long and highly predictable string of score chaining links is better than not having anything at all.
There are many sleeper hits, both in Japan and the West, but I don't think that a game with such crippled gameplay over the first one should ever be considered one of them, it just doesn't deserve it. Not that it's any good that popular clunkers get all the attention and sales while these more original (or at least different) games just go by ignored, but it just isn't deserving any more praise for that.

Oh, and I read that Super Mario Galaxy's sales weren't all that good over at Japan either (it was superseded by no other than Hackberry's <i>Pachinko Assassin III: Iron Pachi-Chonmage 13</i>). Now <b>that's</b> really serious.

What's wrong with Japan this year? Pachinko took all their money? Spending all their money on porn games?

Mario? Say it ain't so. If such off-beat games that have become synonymous with Japanese gaming grow passé on their home turf, will the rest of the world's sales be enough to keep those games' production coming out at the rate we've grown accustomed to?

Seems to be in-line with the Japanese market apathy to the 3D Marios. Oh well, at least NA loves 3D Mario.

Apparently, they like mini-games and are obsessed with handhelds.

If you think about it, the Japanese really hate everything 3D. The Playstation 1 Age must have been rough on them.

And lord, I hate minigame collections. WarioWare excepted, if you've played one, you've played them all. The only ones I've really enjoyed were the old Game and Watch anthologies for Gameboy.

All the WarioWare games after the first one were uniformly forgettable.
