AoSTH coming to DVD.

Post by cjmcray »

In a recent interview, a guy who works for Shout! Factory confirmed he's working on a set of Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog.

http://news.toonzone.net/article.php?ID=15410
TZN: And what else do you have your sights set on for the future?

BW: Right now, I'm producing The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3: The Complete Series and the first volume of The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog. Both are an absolute blast to work on and I think the fans will be happy.
I'll be picking up both of these sets the day they're released. Hope Lovesick Sonic and Sonic Breakout make the first volume.

I was gonna be all like *link to old topic about same thing* and make you feel bad, but it turns out that old topic was about SatAM.

Thought you should know.

Ohh. Sweetness. I was hoping with the release of SatAM they'd release AoSTH too. Now if they'd just release a US region version of SU's boxset I'll be a happy little fangirl.

Thank God. I don't know what I'd do without these bulletins.

Oh, and the DVD bulletin was thoughtful, too. I guess.

Here is an estimate of the episode list, going by the episode guide at TV Tome. Usually boxsets sets go for 20-25 episodes apiece. Adventures can't have an entire first season release, since it is a 60 episode series, of only one season, I believe.

Again, This is just an estimate.

1 The Best Hedgehog
2 Tails' New Home
3 Birth Of A Salesman
4 Submerged Sonic
5 Pseudo Sonic
6 Over The Hill Hero
7 Robo-Lympics
8 Lovesick Sonic
9 Subterranean Sonic
10 Grounder The Genius
11 High Stakes Sonic
12 Blank Headed Eagle
13 Boogey-Mania
14 Big Daddy Robotnik
15 The Robotnik Express
16 Mama Robotnik's Birthday
17 Slowwww Going
18 So Long Sucker!!!
19 Robotnik's Rival
20 Trail Of The Missing Tails
21 Mama Robotnik Returns
22 Too Tall Tails
23 The Super Special Sonic Search And Smash Squad!
24 The Magnificent Sonic
25 Zoobotnik

Ah..Grounder the Genius. One of the few really great episodes in the series. I like the show as a whole (much more so than the SatAm one), but most of it was pretty kiddy camp, you have to admit.

True, it did get pretty childish, but I was only 8 when It premiered, so it didn't hinder me from enjoying the heck out of it. (The crude animation and Robotnik's design did that)

This is going to be one of my most anticipated releases for 2007. I haven't watched the show since I was little.

Favorites

-Best Hedgehog (Becuase it was my introduction to the series)

-Sonic Breakout (Sonic wagging his butt at Robotnik, painting rude things on Robotnik's window, and at the end, blasting out of Robotnik's fortress at full-speed as it explodes.)

-Lovesick Sonic (I found Sonic's dopey behavior around Breezy to be hilarious.)

-Slowww going

-And one where Tails had to rescue Sonic from a castle. (He had the plane from Sonic 2 in the beginning of the episode!)

Tails! He was actually COOL in this show! And he sounded like a boy!

& the Sonic Says segments!

I need this set now.

I'm pretty excited for this too. At least in my biased memory, this show aged a lot better than SatAM due to it not taking itself seriously whatsoever.

My favorite thing about AoStH is Shmorky's animations based on it.

I'm convinced had this series had the same animation budget as SatAM, this would probably be reguarded as "THE BESTEST SONIC CARTOON EVAR!".

--Comedic, likeable baddies

--Robotnik was actually more active in the "field" instead of a cyber dictator

--Sonic actually kicked Robotnik's butt

--Tails was actually useful and had technological prowess

The show was more "Sonic-like" than the overrated SatAm series despite the camp.

I didn't like how Sonic would throw on a referee shirt or something and completely fool Robotnik and his robots. The fuckers sposed to be a genius, that never boded well with me even as a kid. Other than that I thought it was ok. I even have a few on tape cause they were selling three for 10 dollars at some grocery store rental shop in Jackson Hole.

When I was a kid, the thing I hated most about this cartoon was that Robotnik's design was "wrong."

But now, Robotnik's design is probably my favourite aspect of the show. Milton Knight, who did the designing, is a really talented comic artist.

Other than that I'm still not really a big fan of the show. It was nice that it didn't take itself very seriously, but for a show that's supposed to be humourous... it really isn't actually very funny, is it?

Some Updates on the set..

-According to TVShowsonDVD.com, It will include 22 episodes, not 25 as I estimated.

-Producer of the DVD set, Brian Ward, says special features include a "how to draw Sonic" featurette, and an interview with Milton Knight, storyboard artist, and designer of Robotnik.

Cover art for the set will be released sometime between May and June.

Wasn't that the first episode? It was the first one aired in the UK, followed by Subterranean Sonic and the one with Breezy.

Someone on Shout! Factory's forums said that the set will contain
Smash Squad, but idk how reliable they are.

Brian Ward says he has the cover art to the set and would love to show it, but doesn't know how to put it on the Shout! forums. =P I told him to try Imageshack or Photobucket. Awaiting his reply.

Is there a list of which episodes are going to be on the DVD yet?

Milton's a great cartoonist, but he should of left the original robotnik design alone.

It's like they're saying "You bought that shitty SatAM boxset? Fag, this is the good cartoon."
