Then she should be looking AT Super Sonic, instead of staring intensely at the reader.

Something like this:

Is it just me, or does StC have a habit of not showing chara's backsides?

The scene wouldn't be as effective if we were looking at the characters from behind. Generally in comics (and film) shots of the backsides of the characters should be kept to a minimum.

If Tails was facing away from us we wouldn't have to see his ass-ugly face.

Until "Sonic 3D flickies island" came out, they where forbidden to show character back sides, since the designs had to be close to the character sheets. That’s why Sonic turned fat at one point, because of "Sonic 3D" designs. Hopefully all improved in the Sonic adventure adaptation, but it was bad because it was the comic end.

Elson showed the backs of the characters numerous times throughout the comic's run.

Incidentally, early on Sonic's back looked absolutely nothing like Sonic's back. This came after Sonic 2 had long since been released, showing Sonic's back quite clearly in the special stages; why they deviated from that to something so abnormal, I dunno. Beats Dic's atrocious "mohawk", though.

To explain what I mean, Elson, in early issues, drew Sonic's back as if they were three paper-thin sets of spikes, set roughly at right angles from each other. It's easier to see what I mean if a scan was available, but I'm too lazy to look for one... He fixed it later on, though, and Sonic's back was more or less accurate from then on.

"Megatox" in issue 10 is a good example of what you describe, although I never took it as literally paper-thin spikes, but rather an artistic shortcut. He quickly stopped using that technique.

True, before Sonic 2, all we got was a 2d side-image, not exactly much to go on.

Elson was one of the few artists who drew Sonic accurately from all angles. Especially be the time he got to the S&K saga.

Since a buddy of mine brought some issues from england for me, I think this is the best art ever. Archie's was just plain stupid. STC would be perfect if it weren't for the incredbly humanized animals (Johnny the Rabbit, Pork, etc) and the fact that they changed Robotnik's design for that stupid Mean Bean one.

Heh. I used to draw his spikes flat until I got a nice rubber Sonic keychain. It was amazingly similar to the Sonic 2 Special Stage one, but a friend of mine cut it's arm off. Which really, really, REALLY, sucks.
