I can understand most of the posing stuff with that Super Sonic pic, but the main problems I see:
- His entire body is tinted yellow now. His skin, etc. I guess maybe it's because he's supposed to be glowing yellow, but that doesn't make it look any less weird.
- The fact that ALL his spines are now up-turned. Maybe they did this to help differentiate Super Sonic from Shadow visually (the way Shadow can be drawn, it's almost like he's got devil horns), but I don't like it.
Sonic's skin is a bit more yellowish now anyway, at least less of a pink than it used to be. As for the quills, I guess it's a trend that could continue, I have no real big beef with it.
If I remember correctly, Sonic 2's Super Sonic had his spikes (SPIKES) waving about all over the shop, with none of them staying stationary. Is that not the case? If it is, then I guess this is just a misguided attempt to appeal to the "jaded fanboy" demographic.
I actually like the Super Sonic art, but no-one likes how I draw Sonic anyway so what do I know. I do agree, however, that Uekawa has lost his edge; I think it's less due to repetition and more due to a general dumbing-down of his art. It's sunnier, cuddlier... the SA2 and especially SA1 era art was actually very dark and stylised. Anything is better than the Heroes-era rendered dross, though.
I agree on the SA1 art being dark and stylised. I remember walking through Toys 'R' Us a few months before Dreamcast came out with my mom. She is fairly familiar with Sonic considering he's been around the house since I was five. The first thing she said when she saw the pictures of Sonic was that he looked mean. She hadn't really seen anything Sonic related since the S3&K days though. It really has lost its spunk, but I think it is a combination of it being watered down and just seeing it over and over for 7 years.
I'm still confused what they made Vector look like some sort of odd hunchback in Heroes. Espio and Charmy look fine to me, but Vector still looks gross. They should've just used the Chaotix design for him.
I think it could mean anything that's shiny. Hell, you could string together a bunch of polished pennies and it'd probably qualify...but that's just my opinion.
IMO, the only one of the "Chaotix" to have gotten ANY type of physical makeover (save for accessories) was Vector. Espio and Charmy look very much like they did back when they were created, but VECTOR'S a different story.
