Sonic the Hedgehog website launches
:FJ: Plus new screens added to Rush website

Sega Japan have launched an official website for forthcoming next-gen game Sonic the Hedgehog. Little information is available on the site, which currently only contains hi-resolution versions of the four screenshots that were released when the game was first announced.

The official Sonic Rush website has also been updated with character profile for Sonic and new screens, which, among other things, show Tails cheering on Sonic during the boss battle:

New Sonic mobile screens

:FJ: Sega recently issued new pictures of their upcoming Panasonic mobile game Sonic the Hedgehog, which have appeared on a variety of Japanese websites including Watch Impress.

Not to be confused with the forthcoming PS3 and X-Box 360 game of the same name, the mobile game is a port of Sonic’s debut title. As these screenshots show, the visuals are very close to the Mega Drive game:

That is both fruity and cute at the same time.

I'd prefer it if Tails was following Sonic, like he did in the Mega Drive games.

Seeing as how Sonic 1 is getting thrown in everyone's face once again, it'd be cool if SOMEBODY on the next-gen creative team would say "Hey, you know what? We shouldn't have thrown away so many of these elements over the years. They were great. Let's bring them all back!"

Don't be silly. They'll just include the original as an unlockable.

"Ganbatte! Sonikku!!" Haha, it's the OVA all again.

And I like that they could pull of the water coloration on a mobile phone but not on Gems Collection.

That mobile phone game is awesome. If only I had a phone that could handle it. Or that 'snake' game I'm hearing so much about.

Hehe, centre key.

To be honest, I prefer the realistic-looking stages x1000 for the 3D games.

The South Island friends better make an appearance in this game--with them being trapped inside robots.

I wonder if they used the disassemblies made by the hacking scene, in order to port S1 to a phone. It looks like the title screen is done properly, but it's weird that they used a newer-style HUD (that's what, SAd2 style?).

Early forum reactions from people at TGS:
'Sega's Next Gen Sonic - blegh looked pretty darn bad.'
and
'Oh, and the next-gen Sonic stuff was beyond embarrassing. Just take it 'round the back of the barn and put it out of its misery.'
and also this confusing tidbit:
'The sonic team fps/tps game: The presentation was a joke with an awful framerate. Makes you wonder how others manage to get these incredible trailers out.'
Yessssssss!

GameSpot have the Sonic the Hedgehog TGS trailer

It's the tech demo from E3. Unfortunately it's still not a direct-feed video and several people walk past the camera as it's being filmed but it's a much better quality than the leaked E3 videos.

Gaming Age. I've been trawling all sorts of sources for news on this game, but GA is the only place I've seen any kind of mention of it. It's being shown, but no-one wants to talk about it, which doesn't seem to bode well.

According to Kikizo, the only new stuff shown was a short play demonstration given by Naka - other than that, it's just the E3 tech demo on display, which is what I expected.

You know who I'd like to see compose the music for Sonic? Richard Jacques.
Seriously. His music has a more organic, dramatic and cinematic feel than the classic games of old - perfect for these 3D outings.

I'd like Nakamura back, if he's still got it after all these years.

Yeah, but I'm hoping for something within the realm of possibility. After all:
M4G: You met with the creator of the Sonic franchise, Yuji Naka. What did he think about your Sonic tribute?

RJ: Hah hah, yes, the last time I met with Naka-san was in Tokyo eating shabu shabu after the Tokyo Game Show a while back. In Los Angeles we had the opportunity to catch up before the concert which was great. I told him that I had arranged Nakamura-san's original Sonic music for the concert, and that I hoped he would think I had created a faithful arrangement of the Genesis classic. We met again backstage just before the end of the show and he told me that he loved the Sonic Suite, especially the SE-GA choir! He also suggested that we work together again sometime soon.

Not sure if it was posted, but IGN have 2 videos of the demo over here:

http://xbox360.ign.com/objects/749/749072.html

Graphically it LOOKS very pretty. The brick breaking looks great too. Some of the worst enemy designs since the E-2000 [or was it 3000? The flying bitch from Heroes?], I hope they go for something with a bit more personality design wise.

Feels like the whole thing is going in slow motion too :\

I'd like to see Steve Vai do a Sonic game.
