Including Sonic Rush and Sonic Riders the Sonic the Hedgehog series has had 34 playable characters.*

*Excluding Super and Hyper forms. Including multiplayer only characters in SA2 Battle. Counting Chao from Sonic Shuffle and Chao Walker in SA2(B) as one character. Counting both the original E-102 Gamma and the "Chaos Gamma" version in Sonic Battle as one character.

The Sonic Riders page is now up at SONICTEAM's official site. Check it out. One of the screenshot has Amy in them too. She appears to have one of those anime expressions when a character gets really mad and his or her head grows three times the size to express vexation.

Is anyone else reminded of F-Zero GX when looking at those screenshots? It would actually be pretty cool if Sonic Riders was based on that engine.

I was instantly reminded of F-Zero GX. On the one hand, that pleased me, since F-Zero GX looked pretty. But on the other hand, the style doesn't really look like anything "sonic-y." Why bother shoving the Sonic characters into the game at all, then?

(Of course, we all know the answer to that question.)

All I see when I look at this is an extension of Heroes. Probably with the same torturous dialogue. It's still the new Sonic, made by the new Sonic Team. Even if they can pull off good gameplay, and that's as doubtful as ever, nothing changes. But it's a spin-off, so at least it can't do much more damage.

It's sad that my hopes for Sonic games have been reduced to their not committing heresy.

This makes more sense than most of the Sonic-spinoff games, seeing as how nearly every other game after Sonic 2 has featured a part of the game where Sonic is on a rocket/snow/surf/streetboard.

But really, we didn't need the flurry of bird characters. Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Cream, Blaze, Rouge, Shadow, Big and maybe Metal Sonic would've been MORE than enough.

Who knows? Maybe they'll bring back Tails Doll! :D

EDIT: Oh yeah, the thing that killed Sonic R, and to a lesser extent - Mario Kart Double Dash - was the abysmally small number of courses. That that end, Sonic Riders better fucking have more than 7. Hell, I'll be moderately pissed off if it's less than 15.

And whoever said Snowboard Kids rocked?

YES. Yes it did. Character, course, and control design were all fucking awesome.

Hmm...I just read a bit more info about this game on Gamespot and apparently, those birds are a band of thieves called Team Babylon who are allies with Eggman.

New villians in this franchise isn't really an awful thing, but I hope they actually stay bad to the end.

Damnit, there's cinema scenes. The one good thing I could say about this game was that there was no annoying poorly written story, but they had to shove one it. I can't wait to hear about the next gen game.

I take back everything I might've said about these characters not being justified, the series really does need more non-robotic villains. These guys had so better stay villains.

The gameplay doesn't look bland at all. It's giving off a cool Super Monkey Ball vibe to it, which is precisely what I expected. Of course, from the dialouge, it smell another Sonic Heroes... Ugh.

Well, at least they're finally bringing back hand-drawn Uekawa art, as oppose to that GCI Sonic Heroes crapola.

Where are you guys finding this trailer? All I see is screenshots.

I always get confused when people say things like Winter 2006. Winter always stretches over two years, man! Do you mean January 06 or do you mean December 06?

(Of course, in this case we know they can't mean December, but you know what I mean.)

I like the design of the larger bird! The other two are pretty forgettable though.

I went to the Official Riders site and pressed the buttons it began to download the movie, but They wont work for me, Whats up?
