Playing in Naka’s house
Yuji Naka creates Tenchu map of SoJ HQ
As reported previously on the GHZ Newsboard, Yuji Naka was one of four Japanese game designers invited to produce a mission map for PSP title Tenchu: Shinobi Taizen, using the in-game level construction mode.
Publishers From Software recently updated their website with design commentaries from each of the developers.
While Naka’s involvement in the design of Sega’s games has fallen in recent times, his sense of imagination appears to be intact, as his map is a faithful reproduction of Sega’s Japanese headquarters. Apparently, Sonic Team members that played the map were able to instantly recognise the space and could navigate it with ease.
Naka hopes that the map will allow players to enter the mind of Sonic Team.* His design also relates to Puyo Puyo, although the specifics of this connection do not translate clearly.
The From Software site also includes a profile on the Sonic Team CEO.
