Hmph. At least you guys in England got the original soundtrack when the game premiered in 1993 on Mega/Sega CD. The only way I've heard the Japanese soundtrack is through mp3's (which are, incidentally, of mediocre quality).

320kbps. The site hasn't been updated in a year and a half, but I think the links still work.

Thanks. I've had the 128kbps quality ones from Shadow of a Hedegehog for God knows how long. These sound TONS better.

New Gems Collection preview on Gamespy.

It seems the US version of Sonic Gems Collection will only feature the US Sonic CD soundtrack due to licensing issues yet the Japanese version will have the original soundtrack. There's also no Streets of Rage on the US version due to the age rating. Vectorman 1 and 2 will be unlockable games.

I hope the European version includes Streets of Rage and the Japanese Sonic CD soundtrack otherwise I'll probably import the Japanese version!

Right. If the Euro one has the fucking US soundtrack, I'm definitely importing the Japanese version.

On this subject, how hard is it to bypass region coding on a 'Cube?

Not difficult. All you need is a Freeloader disc. You can get one from play.com for £12.99.

Sonic Mega Collection Plus received a 12+ age rating in Europe, so I’m hoping that SoE will have no qualms with including the Streets of Rage games and incurring a similar rating for Gems. ^_^

If this boxart is anything to go by I'm not too hopeful.

I wonder if rating is why they left Comix Zone and The Ooze out of the domestic versions of Mega Collection?

Vectorman's a fair trade-off, I think, but wouldn't that qualify for a T rating as much as Streets of Rage?

The only things getting destroyed in Vectorman are robots, so it's okay.

Sweet!

So are their any good sites to import Japanese GameCube games that'll deliver to the UK at an affordable price?

Also, this caught my eye whilst looking on play.com. They're still licensing Animaniacs? Wow. I hope Warner Brothers get around to giving it a similar DVD boxset treatment to the 90s Batman and Superman animated series.

Well, I've never actually ordered a Japanese import game myself but the main places I've seen recommended on import game forums are Play-Asia.com, Lik-sang.com and YesAsia.com.

They're making improvements on old games included in the collection? Huh. Didn't see that one coming. Actually, with the premise of "team battles" I'm still not sure I've seen it coming.

I've got some news for you guys. The Japanese Gems Collection site has been updated. Sonic Team is once again promoting the collection with this interesting T-shirt, and there happens to be some new text under the logo in the main site. It's compressed in JPG, so Babelfish cannot translate it. The green symbols must mean something. If anyone here can read Japanese, it would be most delightful if you can tell us what it is indicating. Could it mean more unlockables?

Nah, it just says that it'll be on the GameCube and PS2.
