As if this game hasn't gone downhill enough already it seems there's now an awful sounding love song in the game's soundtrack.

Makes a change to awful rock music I guess.

The bottomless pits have gotten beyond a joke. Bottomless pits can be used constructively in crafting a challenging level design, but in all of the Sonic games post-SA they've just been a product of pure lazy design. They're not putting enough thought into how to create cohesive miniature 3D worlds, just race tracks in the sky.

The original Sonic Adventure utilised its set pieces and the third dimension. There weren't as many alternate routes as there could have been, but certainly more than its successors and there was always an overall cohesive design. The setting wasn't just about how the level looked, but also about how it was laid out and how it played.

The lighted panels section of Lost World, the dome cave in Ice Cap, the cannon and tilting parts of Sky Deck, outside the town hall in Speed Highway, around the castle in Twinkle Park, Casinopolis' lobby... No suspended racetracks there, just competent design work based around the themes of the stages.

When the game did go into suspended race track mode it made sense - Speed Highway, certain sections of Sky Deck and Red Mountain and so on. In those areas alternate paths were also available, barriers were put to good use and there was little danger from suffering a cheap death as a result of a dodgy homing attack or light speed dash.

And then Gaz was mauled by bears for hating the remix of "Sweet Sweet Sweet", which was originally used in Sonic 2.

It's not Sweet Sweet Sweet. It's a different song. It's supposedly the song that will be used in western versions of the game instead of Sweet Sweet Sweet. It's from this trailer.

Omni, Penguin, do tell me where in my original post that I said a word about bottomless pits. This board has a fully-featured search function and if I wanted to read old rants about frustrating pit deaths from you guys, i'd use it.

Source. Right. Now.

But... there was an English version of Sweet Sweet Sweet too back in the day. They could do something with that. (God forbid any foreign language be used in a commercial video game/movie/TV show.) Better yet they could've done an instrumental version, since the lyrics pretty much suck anyway.

Not an issue, I wasn't responding to you.

If you're not going to copyright that, I can turn that into a song in like five minutes.

Go for it. Maybe add in some lines about how she was kidnapped by a fat old man and had to be rescued by her sweet hedgehog lover from another world and how tragic it is that his fast insectivorian penis can only remain in her so long?

Well I got this from the Sonic The Comic Online Message Boards:
Blackarms from the Sega Of America forums (He's a reliabe source) has spoken heard the jist of the Sonic Next Gen plot.

This could be spoilers.

Princess Elises' father, the duke, loved his daughter. He was not only a duke, but a great scientist who had worked among many asscoiates on many experiments (he even worked with Proffesor Gerald for a time). On what would be his final experiment, Project Solaris, he tried to comunicate to Solaris (think of it like heaven) to talk to the gods. Unfortunately, he suceeded. But instead of talking to the gods, he summoned two demons, the Iblis and Mephiles. They killed the duke, but before he died, he sealed the Iblis into his own daughter and sent Mephiles into the past.

Dying, he told his daughter never to cry, for if she did, the Iblis would be set free.

Meanwhile, in the past, Mephiles found Shadow's capsule on Prison Island. Mephiles merged himself with Shadow on the island, he became the ultimate life forms dark side. He would rest inside Shadow until he could return to the future to continue to free the Iblis from inside Elise.

Shadow, in the present, suffers memories from his brain again. But suddenly, a mysterious crystal hedgehog (mephiles) appears to Shadow as if from nowhere (he really was coming out of Shadow) and so Shadow won't stop him, sends him 20 years into the future, thanks to his powers returning to him.

Meanwhile, Eggman is quite aware of everything, and thinks he can use the power of the Iblis to become a god, the leader of Solaris. Eggman has been studying the works of what Gerald and the duke had discovered together, and he realizes Elise is the link to Solaris. He goes out to capture the princess to getr the secrets to become a god.

Shadow, meanwhile, is found in the future by a mysterious GUN agent (it's GUN Commander, you're not supposed to know this yet, though) and tells Shadow info about the hedgehog Shadow encountered, and also tells him Rouge is in danger.

Sonic and Elise become friends, and Sonic is the first thing that has made Elise truely happy in 10 years. But Sonic is what triggers Elise to cry, thus realesing the Iblis from his seal.

I will reveal more soon.

Also, MAJOR SPOILERS, there are 8 Chaos Emeralds. The 8th one lays in Solaris.
So yeah.

Huh. That, provided it's legit, doesn't sound too bad. First take on Shadow I can honestly say that I don't mind.

Wow. That contains way too many lame story devices for a Sonic game. Prophecies. Demons. Time travel. Heaven. Sure, these things have been hinted at in other games, but only as legends to create background and atmosphere. I don't like that they're taking on primary roles in the plot. It makes me want to just play Chrono Trigger.

Flash, you said yourself about the "Be careful not to fall signs" being around since Sonic Adventure 1. I wasn't constructing an arguement at you, just elaborating on the point how we shouldn't need to have those warnings if the level design was along the same lines of most points of SA1. It's all cool, man.

Anyway, back on the present point, so Shadow has a link to a demon, aswell as aliens, scientists and hedgehogs.

Assuming it's all legit, this is a good thing, guys. They're explaining away why Shadow's had a loner mentality going, and to me it's not clear right off that they're set to botch it up.

Yes, he's a hedgehog gentically engineered with alien DNA who is possesed by a demon. That's the most ridiculous character idea ever. What's next? Will we find out that Shadow is also a elf prince werewolf vampire wizard cowboy cyborg alien demon science experiment from 2,000 years in the future sent back in time to replace Jesus by God?
