That thing about the gun being optional is absolutely nothing but fan speculation on a couple of segments in the trailer where you couldn't see a gun. So I don't see why everybody seems to be putting so much faith into that.
As for Shadow, his character sucked from the beginning. We don't need another "Sonic equal". Metal Sonic is good enough. But they had to gay him up, too, for Heroes.
I've never played it. The only portable (Sonic) game I've ever owned was SPA and the only other (portable Sonic) games I've played is Sonic Chaos (Sonic & Tails?) and Sonic 2 (both for less then 30 minutes about five and eight years ago respectively).
Well then, after reading GG!'s article and learning of no major differences in translation, I guess I'll have to grab some quotes and hash this out with you guys. Because I really, really didn't like the dialogue. Same with the little mini scenes in Advance 2. To me, it was the beginning of the end for Sonic.

Guess: Shadow can whip out a gun at any moment, and it is not necessarily seen at all times during gameplay. Howver, if you want to have any hope of getting through the game, you'd better learn how to make Shadow pop a cap in someone's ass. Also VG Cats has another unique view on this subject: http://www.vgcats.com/comics/

Sonic Battle isn't really a game, but a script for a cartoon where you occasionally get to press buttons. If you remove the dialogue then there isn't anything enjoyable left.

Damn right. I got about halfway through the game then traded it in, because I just couldn't be arsed with it and GG had summed the story up quite nicely.
