-No mandatory collect-a-thon to advance through the game.
-No hubworld. Just a level select screen.
-Wisps communicate and have personalities, but they don't talk. Think Lumas or Pokemon.
-Levels should be similar in length to the HD version of Unleashed, so fairly lengthy. Multiple Acts per Zone. No rehashed gimmick acts like "Don't break anything". All replay will be out of choice and will not be mandatory.
-Lose all rings when hit. Like the classic games.
-No talking Chip/Tikal/Omochao type of character, which makes you wonder what Curly is.
-Can't comment on other characters in the game or the purpose of the Metal Sonic Planet.
-No cheap difficulty or trial and error like Eggmanland.
-Dialogue is minimal.
-Wisps are not required to beat the game. They're merely power-ups.

I'm pretty sure that last point is bull. In the level shown at E3, there was definitely a point where you had to drill.

Jumping is not required to beat the game, it is merely a core function of gameplay.

An interview, in which Takashi Iizuika doesn't answer questions about Sonic Colours: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/the-c ... iew?page=1
Sonic games, it's pretty clear that how good the level design is directly affects the quality of the game.

The team believes the speed and the tempo is crucial. Sonic Team are the professionals at doing it.

Eurogamer: But how do the negative comments make you feel? Do you ignore them?

Takashi Iizuka
: It's more that those fans are not positive towards the recent 3D Sonic games because we've been releasing only 3D Sonic games in the past couple of years.
Yes, it's not the overally bad quality of the games, it's the fact that they haven't released any 2D Sonic games since 1997. Pocket Adventure, Advance 1, 2, 3 and Rush [Adventure] did not exist. This is why Sega hired Dimps to make Sonic 4, because of their zero experience producing 2D Sonic games.

Dangerously insane human being.

“…The team is confident that this is a game everybody can really enjoy. That’s why we’ve offered a lot of hands-on for E3,” Iizuka said. “It’s something that the team is really confident from the gameplay side. It’s something that, this time, the team thinks they’ve nailed it – it’s definitely not going through the Sonic cycle!
Oh... umm... wow. Iizuka actually knows about the Sonic Cycle.

This made my day... and also depresses me.

The 'Sonic Cycle' does not exist. A shite game is going to be bad regardless of whatever stuff they add to it. Sticking to just a boost button and some rings with just Sonic is not going to improve the quality of inept developers.

Personally I liked the games better when they had stuff like item boxes. Not just 'SPEED, ATTITUDE AND SONIC!!!"

It sadly seems like they did listen to the fans and removed everything from the series, finally destroying any relics it had left that might have at least made people think they still liked it.

Shields, rings, 1ups, invincibility, speed shoes, et cetera.

I think you think the Sonic Cycle is something other than what it actually is.

Actually you just do not appreciate the 3D games and there is nothing wrong with them. Sonic Team are professionals and give you the quality you want. Although it is true that not everyone can be pleased, that is why they are doing Sonic 4 and Sonic Colours. Sonic 4 will also feature the newer 3D Sonic and homing attack in order to appeal to everyone.

I wish they'd release a direct feed trailer of the DS game, with ingame audio.

Sonic Colours Wii already seems to be doing enough right to be at least "mediocre to decent" and I don't give a shit about seeing it in motion anymore. On the other hand I want to see if the DS game builds upon Rush Adventure and improves the handheld formula or if it's a crappy rush job that exists solely to tie in with the console game.
