Get calls while online? NEED HELP!

Post by Zeta »

I need technical help. I want to have something so that when I get a phonecall while I'm online, I'll be able to answer it. I don't need to stay connected while I talk. Just know the call is coming while online, be able to pick up the phone and speak. Even if I'm disconected.

I bought something today that was supposed to help me do that. It's this little caller ID thing made by AT&T. However, it doesn't work. It'll beep when I get a regular phone call, but not when I'm online. It will just act like nothing's happening. I did everything I should. I set it right. I plugged the jacks into the right places. It just doesn't do squat while I'm online. I don't know if it's because I need to pay extra and subscribe to a call-waiting or caller ID service or what.

We even considered getting me a cellphone, but my house isn't in a cellphone area. You can't make calls or get them from here.

Anyone know how to do this? I'm really desperate!

My dad set it up somehow to where everytime someone calls, it automatically kicks you off. I don't know how he did this, though.

Nothing but dialup is offered in this area. This is the boondocks, boys. We have a population of only a 1,000 or so people.

I think with certain modem drivers it can warns you of an impending call while you're on the internet by making a dialog box come up. Unfortunately I don't know much else on the subject, so you would be better to ask your internet service/modem provider for more information, Zeta.

Look for a program called Callwave. It's supposed to alert you to incoming calls. You need to have call waiting service on your phone, though.

Or you could buy a USR 56K 5699B (link here) It has an app built-in that lets you take incoming calls.

GE has a device that you can connect a bunch of devices into at once and use them all with one phone line. That's all I can remember. You might want to look for something like that.

Dude, that phone is huge too. I mean, look at it, it almost doubles as a TV remote with those arrow buttons.
