Lately I've been leaving areas uncolored for stylish effects! Or at least that's what I'm aiming for.
Do Star Light Zone! Star Light Zone!
Way ahead of you! Except I'm really not that proud of that one anymore. A new Star Light Zone is going to be next. But not right away.

BTW I was reading comments on your GHZ picture on DA and caught that bit about using a grid layer on your checkers, and I just can't believe I never thought of that when I was doing GHZ pics! I drew a grid, sure, but each square was sloppily done by hand all on one layer. I feel like such a ludite!

Thanks for the comments, everybody. :)

I don't get it... What did you do that was so different? I mean, grid, check, painting one by one, check... unless it's the layering involved. Or not using the paint bucket. o_O

I actually saw that Star Light piece today, browsing your stuff. Very nice. I love the upside-down bomb-guy badniks.

Yeah, the layers and paint bucket. I basically painted each square by "brush," and my grid was basically the rough version of the same thing, on the same layer. What I'm thinking you did was shade/texture the walls first, and then just painted (within the grid) your checkers on top. I went straight into checkers, and then shaded/textured on top of that. It was not efficient!

This must be the very best official Sonic comic ever made.

I remember seeing this! Wow. I should've bought that when I was a kid, but, for some reason, we never had these "Where's Wally" types of books. I did love them though.

Google celebrating Sonic 1's release in US. Also, checkers.

Bridge Zone! Yes!

I had a Game Gear when I was five. Didn't get a Genesis until age twelve.

So that pic is badass, especially the Eggman expression.

That was classy, and somehow ironically original.

It looks like someone at SA paid Kricfalusi to do this.

For reasons unknown I ended up coloring this and for similar reasons I made it look like crap. But I didn't look at the finished picture while doing so!

I defy everyone to look for or, alternatively, develop a Sonic picture half as badass as this one:

Also, Eggchick.

It reminds me of both SatSR and Conker's Bad Fur Day. Epic.
