At the recent Toy Fair Jakks Pacific announced they had acquired the Sonic licence. In addition to showcasing their forthcoming Sonic toys, they also mentioned a new cartoon would debut later in the year. None of Jakks toys use the Boom designs, so it's quite likely the cartoon will be based more closely on the main games. Although it was mentioned together with the movie, so a series based on that could be possible as well.
