According to Hari Hari (The Japanese Sonic fan behind Act Select), this book was a free gift given with Famicom magazine.
For a Free gift, it's actually impressive, as most freebie magazines in the UK tend be a lot smaller (both in page size and the number of pages).

Hari Hari doesn't actually have a copy, which means I out nerd him!

Out Nerd!

Well that's a neat detail! EGM used to include supplements (really just extra advertising) with their subscriber issues, but nothing substantial like this. That puts some of the details in the book in perspective, the "Present Application" I mentioned before is on the last page, and is an offer to win some of the Sonic goods shown earlier in the book (according to that there are more "goods" pages--nothing interesting on those?), which would be a weird thing in an actual "book" but not at all strange in magazine supplement. The section where Western editors (EGM's Ed Semrad naturally stood out to me) chime in about his overseas popularity is an interesting thing to have included. The other part that jumps out at me is the British(?) fan art, both of which show Mario in dire situations. I have a single old issue of UK Sega Force, and the entire fan art section (or a good chunk of it anyway) was like that, less "fan" and more "anti-Mario." I recall EGM's envelope art section would get violent on occasion but "Mortal Kombat vs Barney the Dinosaur" seemed to be the more common theme.

It is a pretty cool book from the looks of things, I like the layouts. I've been taking a look through it for good stuff. Have you shown

It's just Western merchandise. I'll try scanning it later on in the week.

I think you haven't finished your sentence there. I want to know what you are saying!

Haha whoops! I was asking if you had shown it to anyone who was interested in translating the whole thing? I figured I'd at least try to get the gist of everything and summarize, but I'm pretty busy as well, so I figured I'd ask before I spent much time with it. I'm not very quick at these things anymore. ;)

Also happy 700th post?

I haven't show it to anyone else, so if you do find some time to translate it that would be awesome.

Thanks!

I think so!

It kinda ticks me off that he's apparently capable of scenery after all, and competently too.

Wow, I'd love to see some of his SA character sketches before their lines got all beveled out and thickened.

From Archie, I think.

I'd, no joke, buy an issue if it was done entirely in this style.

(I think the artist is an erstwhile member here?)

I'm confident some social justice website will decry black-face and start leaking artists addresses.

Didn't that guy used to/still go here? I recall there being a big to-do around here about his debut issue (which I still have) including a cameo by Drano, of all things...

I've assumed anyone who popped back would log in and the members list would betray them, but I suppose that could be wrong.

Word has it he found a wifu and forgot about Sonic. That might be a lie, though.

Anyway, what's it like at the new and improved Archie Comic Publications, Inc. Sonic the Hedgehog faction? Or did they downsize that and you just send them a PDF of your work to publish?

Guys, if there's a married man masquerading around Japan as GG! then we should probably send someone to investigate. He may have been body-snatched by Purple Baboon in yet another attempt to steal the NEO Crystal.

It's from a new range of Sonic iPhone cases. I'm surprised that there's still unseen Mega Drive Sonic development art floating around.

Too bad this wasn't included in Sonic the Screensaver. But, then again seeing halcyon-era artwork for the first time is always a treat.

I don't recall ever seeing this before. Is there a higher quality version on the web, also in English?
