The Saturn sounded like THAT?

Post by Delphine »

Can you name the Video Game Consoles by Start Up Sound?

Pretty simple: listen to the audio file, identify the console and see how many you get right. I missed the Saturn, but I got all the other systems I've owned. And the Jaguar, but that one's pretty obvious.

goddamn bbcode can't we just html

Oh man, I totally didn't notice there was a "year" hint on them until afterward...

Is it just me or does their Wii sound like it's submerged underwater? Mine... doesn't sound like that.

Can't believe I was familiar enough with the CD-i's bios to recognize it.

I can't believe I got stumped on the Sega Master System. I must've guessed every other Sega console.

I missed Jaguar, CD-i, and Amiga CD32 (which is technically a console-ized version of some Amiga PC and I don't think should qualify as a console proper), the only three I have never owned.

Embarrassingly, I mixed up the PS1 start-up with the Saturn start-up. My kung-fu is worsening with age.

The sound quality is all over the place. Like some are direct copies and some are obviously recordings from the other side of the room.

I missed Nintendo DS, CD-i and Amiga CD32.

Should've included one of the Sega CD startup tracks. All three minutes.

The only ones I didn't get were Amiga CD32, PlayStation 3, and PSP.

I actually knew the CD-i, Jaguar, and Master System start-up sounds thanks to videos on YouTube I saw months beforehand, even though I never owned those systems. I thought the Jaguar was the Super NES for a minute due to the last few seconds of the start-up music.

My elementary school actually had a CD-i. This is practically burned into my memory. I of course didn't know it was even a video game console at the time. I wouldn't be too surprised if they were still using the damned thing for the exact same purposes to this day.

I think the PSX may have the best startup sound. Man, it gave me shivers back in the day.

Also, anyone agree that the Dreamcast may be the loudest of all the consoles.

I'll agree to this. Every time I turned on my Dreamcast, I had to turn the sound down on my T.V. You have no idea how many times the start-up screen made me jump up in regards to how loud it was.

Is it bad that I seem to be the only one here who didn't know the start-up sounds of the PS3 or PSP?

I didn't know them either because I own neither, in fact I don't think I've ever played them at all. There were a whole bunch I just didn't know.

The PS1 startup brings me to a place full of dead, gray trees and ice-hard snow banks tall enough to swallow a man, over which howling winds glide, screaming for unexplained vengeance upon the living. Probably 'cause I played through MGS1 in the freezing cold upstairs bedroom one winter.

Then I suppose you remember this error screen, huh?

I never had this happen to me on my own PS1, but it kind of scared me the first time I saw it on youtube.

It's amazing how just a small tweak can make something familiar horrifying.

Actually, I was surprised they didn't use the alternate Gamecube startup sounds in the quiz.

I always remember :BEEEEEEEEP: as part of the Dreamcast startup, as I always had at least one VMS with dead batteries.

At one point a made a battery pack for my VMS that I could use with rechargeable batteries, but it didn't fit into the controller.
